Smile Send a PDI list to your dealer NOW...

I complained a lot about my dealer in the beginning, but as the delivery date nears they are really starting to get on the ball and make me a happy customer. Yesterday I sent the following as a list of requests for the PDI process and my salesman just informed that all requests would be glady adhered to in addition to stating that NO ONE would drive my car.

As we are nearing the delivery of my 350Z, I have a few requests for possible deviations from your normal PDI process. Please send back an e-mail as confirmation of this list as well as any potential problems you might see in fulfiling these requests.

1. Please DO NOT drill the front bumper for the license plate. I am arranging for a modification to attach the plate without destroying the front facade.

2. Please DO NOT adhere any dealer badging/advertising to the vehicle. We both know how many people will be asking about the car and I will gladly tell them where I purchased.

3. Please DO NOT allow an orbital machine buffer to touch the finish of my vehicle. A hand wash and wax is acceptable only if performed by your best detailers.

4. Please DO NOT allow anyone other then your service manager, or yourself to drive my car should it arrive before I do.

5. If a full tank is part of the PDI process, and 93 octane is not the norm for PDI fill-ups, please DO NOT fill my tank. I will waive the free tank if it is not of the highest grade gasoline available.
If you haven't already, you might want to pass a note to your dealer in order to set PDI expectations.

I'll plan on telling my dealer that they can put on dealer badging, but I charge $500 per month for advertising.

I compiled (yes compiled) a letter that consisted of several parts of other peoples letters. I sent a different letter but it pretty much had the same info as this. Here it is feel free to use it if you like as I am not the sole creator of it anyway.

. . . As we get closer to delivery I have a few minor requests I would like to ask of you before my vehicle is delivered. I do not want a front license plate holder on the car. I also would like to have no dealer stickers on the car. You can trust that I will tell anyone who asks that I bought my car at Celebration Nissan. I would like the original window sticker intact. You may remove it as long as it remains intact, or you may leave it on the vehicle and I will remove it. One final request is that I want no additional dealer installed options (paint sealant, fabric guard, etc.). Please do not buff or wax the vehicle's finish. A clean water wash and air dry is sufficient. I will be using a special show car polish called Zaino Bros. which will not work right with any other waxes or treatments.

On a related note, while I assume your dealership does not make it common practice, I would like to ensure my 350Z is not tested inappropriately or in any manner that may damage the car. Please drive the vehicle only enough to insure it is functioning properly, please DO NOT redline the engine. Please do not allow other sales people to drive the vehicle, only the person that is responsible for pre-delivery inspection (and/or yourself). I expect the odometer to reflect this request. I will be observing the break-in period as recommended by Nissan and your service department. If at all possible, I would like to have a copy of the typical dealer pre-check and would also like to arrange to be at the dealership soon after the vehicle arrives. If for some reason I am not immediately available, please do not use the vehicle as a “show” car. However, if you must, you may do so only if it is roped off.

. . .

Tonight, I will post the actual letter I sent if anyone is interested. (I dont have it here at work)

Hell no, I wouldn't mind. Go for it! VandyZ's got some good stuff in his letter as well, especially the part about the window sticker.

Default good thinking.....

I am very familiar with the PDI or make ready process!! Being that I worked for a well know Dealership here in Dallas, the employees that usually perform this task are usually any where from 17-22 yrs of age, and at the time I was one of them. I remember very well the wonderful, exciting days of taking that fresh new mustang gt or cobra for the ride of my life......ahhhhhh memories....... (as we are tasked of putting 10-12 miles on every vehicle that comes in) this is to make sure everything is working correctly on the vehicle! So you BETTER BELIEVE I'll be making for damn sure nobody drives my car but me!!!
