I put this on ZCAR tonight: would like to share here too
I wonder if there are other future Z owners out there like me. I have been following this and other forums as thirsty as everyone else for news, specs, production and delivery schedules, etc. Yet I feel like a minority in my reasons for pre-ordering a Z. Perhaps others like me are not aware of these forums or choose not to follow or post on them. Anyway, when I get my Silverstone Enthusiast I will not be taking it to the track. I am not likely to be adding on a bunch of after market stuff (although, depending on how it sounds, I MIGHT be tempted to do something about the exhaust). I will not be trying to blow away every Boxter, S2000, or Mustang that pulls up next to me at a light. And I certainly will never see anywhere near the top-end speed of this car. So why would a 51 year old professional with a wife and kids order a car he'll never use to its full performance potential? Simple: this car has a very attractive, head-turning design and appearance. It will be very inviting and appealing to walk up to this car and slide behind the wheel. And most importantly, this car is going to be a HELL OF A LOT OF FUN TO DRIVE! For me, it will be just as much fun to drive whether the hp ends up being 280, 290, or something else. It will be just as much fun whether the 0-60 is 5.2, 5.4. 5.6, or whatever. And it will be just as much fun to drive even though my state requires a front license plate, and regardless of where the friggin' radio antenna is located. Let's not take all this so seriously. To all future 350Z owners.....HAVE FUN.

I will not race with every car out there, but knowing that I could, it makes me feels good.

I think your reasons for buying the Z and your planned use of it will be fairly common. I don't plan to modify my car unless I find something that really needs improvement (e.g. if seats are uncomfortable or if the exhaust note isn't fitting of a true sports car). I also think there will be a number of Z owners in our demographic group since the original 240Z came out when we were in high school. Car guys often get hooked on cars that were popular when they were young.

As you can see by the replies, you are not a minority, the people, if you can call them that, over at zcar are just the vocal minority and I have a feeling most probably don't even have an order for the Z but just want to stir things up and jerk peoples chain. I go over there mostly to get a chuckle and maybe for the 1% of the posts that may be informational, this forum is definetly the best for coherent and informational discussion.

Nicely said.
My Z will be a 50th birthday present to myself, as the big day is in August, it MIGHT be there in time.
I don't plan on modding(sp) the engine other than maybe a low restriction air intake. I want to keep the full 3 year warranty.
BUT, I plan to see 153 in my Z
On a Road Course, of course. There are 3 long straights at Road America where it might be possible

LazyZ,
There are many people who buy cars and aren't interested in "modding" them. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this. Just enjoy every minute of the car and be proud to own the new Z. Enjoy your driving!!!
P.S. admit it.....wouldn't it be nice to kill a boxster once in awhile?

LazyZ,
I just want you to know that you "old fellas" aren't the only ones who wont mod the car out. I'm 22 and fresh out of college, ready to spend some of the money my hard-earned BSEE will make me. All these people talking about modding the 350 are blowing alot of smoke. I don't think that many of them are actually buying the car. First, it's a fairly expensive car...how mang other highly-modded 35k cars do you see? Second, it sounds like the Zcar members just want a high-powered dragster... something the 350 really isn't and maybe can't be.
I too want something that looks, sounds, and feels great. I think the majority of owners will use it as their daily driver/commuter because it will be comfertable and cool. Don't sweat the hype of a bunch of pretenders.
I should note however, I do have a special hate of Mustangs, and after mine broken in, I may have fun...from time to time.

Most of them zcar-kids aren't going to buy the car.
How many people modify $35K car? Not many.
Hate 'stangs. Been there, done that. IMHO Ford = Nothing but trouble.
Every Ford I've ever had, and I've had a few (both used and new Mustang and new Explorer) and the engineering is garbage. Good engines, but the suspensions suck.
And isn't that what a sports car is all about: handling? Nissan has said as much. My 'stang was fast in a straight line, but turn that wheel and the car and things-not-on-the-road would marry themselves faster than an Appalachian brother and sister!

The only thing I'm gonna "mod" are the seats (custom leather) and stereo. *Maybe* an intake, but I highly doubt it.
As far as I'm concerned, the people at Nissan know way more about cars than I do, and the 350Z is designed to work together all as one piece. I'd never want to screw with it. I want the thing as stock as possible, cause it's pretty awesome as-is.

I'll change at least the speakers and maybe the stereo. Bose and I are not friends.

Read your post and thought is was great.Just to know how fast this car should be is good enough for my ego.My car will more than likely remain stock and I plan on holding it for many, many years. It will not be my daily car, will be in the garage with a cover and will enjoy every minute of it.
