My Xterra is auto and my Z is manual. The only problems I have when driving the auto is stepping on the invisible clutch and forgetting to put it in park before turning the car off. And because it's a 4 door I forget to put the back windows up sometimes.

 

I'm guessing you use two feet to drive an automatic. There's your problem. I don't know why people do that. I see it all the time (brake light is on and they just keep driving)

 

i only use one foot on automatic but like some of the people who posted it just turns to a habit when coming to a stop to look for you clutch now what would really be talented is using ONE foot driving manual

 

I've definately gotten into an auto, put it into reverse and then SLAMMED on the brake with my left foot, thinking it was the clutch. The worst part was that I was working for an auto repair place and I was driving a customer home while her car was being serviced...She was some little old lady and was like WTF???

 

the only problem I have with switch back and forth between manuel and auto is that when I hop into an auto I tend to sometime drive with both feet, just a habit

 

I'm confused, so what exactly did you do? Pushing the clutch pedal down with your right foot thinking that was the position of the brake pedal? The clutch is pretty far over from the gas I don't see how one would do that without their leg feeling akward moving over that far.

Although I admit, when I upgraded from my 6MT Tiburon to my (unfortunately) auto ZR, one night during a quick dash from a stop light I went to push in the non-existant clutch hard with my left foot but the tip of the right side of my left foot hit the brake and needless to say I looked like a fool.

Haven't done it since though, and its been a month so I think i'm safe from that now.

I still have the need to shake the gearshift left & right though on my auto like you do when you make sure a manual is in neutral.

Your title was deceiving though I thought this was about a tranny swap too! Thinking yay someone went to auto to manual now I can find out how much it might cost! But no... you ruined it... Thanks.

 

Ha. Was driving my friends car (auto) once on the hwy, with my hand on the shifterm and shifted into neutral w/o even realizing it then freaked out when I tried to accelerate. Felt dumb afterwards

 

i always use the wiggle method. If it doesnt wiggle its an automatic hah

 

I'm still confused on how you got your right foot over to the clutch pedal... you must have really short legs or be very flexible... sorry you jacked your car up though...

edit: ok now I see you were just trying to push the clutch down with your left foot but just forgot to brake with your right foot. I remember trying to brake with my left foot once in an auto (just to see what it was like) and since I'm used to pushing on the clutch so hard with my left foot I locked the brakes up and laid a patch of rubber on the road about 60 feet long when I stopped to let someone cross the street... they looked at me like WTF? haha

 

I can go from auto to manual fine, with no problems.

Must be my asian genes that allow me to adapt to vehicles so fast.

jesus that happens to me all the damn time specially in customer's cars. but u still use the right foot for the brakes.

 

Man I think we`ve all been there! My last three cars have been standards,and I remember one day I was in my ex gf`s Talon,and I accelerated in 1st,then hit the brake (thinking I was going for the clutch!). Yep,it`d been a LONG time since I`d driven an auto.

Nope, I only use my right foot when I drive autos... I'm not quite sure wtf happened really; all I know is that it was my first time driving an auto in almost 2 months and that definitely had something to do with it. It made sense the other day when I explained it.. I think it was when I pushed in the clutch (for some reason thinking it was the brake) I panicked because I didn't slow down, and my right foot was hesitant to step on the brake because I think that I thought it was the gas (which would only make me go faster into the rock!) So... yeah... I think I might get a nismo front bumper (if anyone's got one for sale let me know!), because although this incident happened on thursday on my way to the celtics game, the next day, friday, I got my rear bumper hit! I'm thinking of getting a nismo front and rear.
