Default Bad Gas

I recently filled up with premium fuel at a Rennie's Citgo Gas Station. I left the gas station and entered an entrance ramp for the highway. My car began to cough and the engine steadily spooled down. I was able to pull off the highway and waited an hour for a state trooper. He called for a flatbed tow truck and my new car was towed into a Nissan dealership. I explained that I suspected contaminated fuel. Long story short they couldn't find anything wrong with the car, no computer codes, etc. On the third day I reiterated my concern about the gas I had purchased and requested they look at that again. They called back an hour later to say that the fuel was contaminated with "a lot of water". The service representative also informed me the dealership's waste tank was full and they couldn't pump out my gas tank. I finally got the car back at the end of the fourth day but the interior smelled strongly of gas. They told me the tank had to be pumped out from the interior. Say goodbye to that new car smell.

I followed the service tech's instructions and only filled the car up half way for 1,000 miles. The engine occasionally sputters as residual water makes it's way through the system.

The gas station confirmed their tank had water in it due to a cracked filler cap that allowed water to flow in after a heavy rainstorm. Three or four other cars were affected. They paid for the repairs to my car but I am unsure of any long-term damage done to the motor. Has anyone had any experience with this?
