Most desireable Z?
For NA you probably want a Z with an HR. reflash + test pipes + exhaust = 300rwhp.
I daily drive my base 08 Z and I'm very happy with it. I have 2200 miles on the car and I've gotten 17-18 mpg city-only (it will probably be lower in stop-and-go), 26 freeway-only (just like the window sticker), both verified by the gallons-divided-by-miles method. Mixed driving, 50/50, I get around 22-24, which is about as good as the '94 1.8 Miata I used to have.
I test drove an S2000 against a Z, back to back (if I had test driven an Evo too I probably would have bought an Evo). The cabin is friendlier and more comfortable and quieter than an S2000's, but not quite as sporty. Both cars have very long cabins and seat travel so tall people can drive them comfortably. In both cars there aren't a lot of places to put things like CD booklets.
The car isn't going to murder you in daily driving unless you're like 7 feet tall and five feet wide with back problems and overly sensitive hearing. Even though I got a base, I recommend the enthusiast.
If you're looking at used Zs, 2005 is the "safest" year. Chip, test pipes, and spacer, and you'll be making a healthy amount of NA power.
