Default Just test drove a 06 Z..some questions

It seemed like after first or second gear when the revs were high like 5-7 thousand, and i would try to shift up it wouldnt, the shift light kept flashing and it was almost like it was in neutral just revving. It would only shift up when I let the revs drop down. Is this normal or what? Also DTE was flashing all the time. Sorry if these are dumb questions. please help beacuse it almost put me off the Z

You sure your hitting the next gear? Not trying to insult you or anything just had to ask since rpms arent going to keep you out of the next gear. DTE is Distance til Empty if I am not mistaken...as in fuel.

Just curious but what is your Up-shift indicator setting set at? I set it as high as it will go since I hate to be told when I should shift.

If you're shifting and it isn't grabbing, my assumption is that the clutch is just about shot.

As far as the shift light, there are two buttons on the right side of the gauges. Pushing the top one rotates you through 8 different settings on the left gauge in the center console. Hit the top button until you get to the rpm setting. Push the bottom button to move the shift light setting. If it's set at 4000, it starts blinking at 3500, then goes solid at 4000. It doesn't affect the car at all, it's just a gadget light. I've got mine set at 6600 so it won't flash unless I'm hammering it.

How many miles does the car have on it?

You are not going to be an expert when you first start driving the thing. It will take some getting used to.

^^Tool..

As for the car acting funny....Try to get the dealer to gas it up next time. Mine does all kinds of craziness when it's low on gas and you try getting on it. May solve the problem. If not, get a carfax and see if the dealer can check the clutch.

That sounds wrong to me. I've been driving manuals for over 10 years and even though when you get into a new car you haven't driven, you can still shift with ease. It's hard to be smooth with the clutch and rev match correctly right away but if you drive sticks enough, you should have no issues like you described. Either walk away from the car as it seems like it may have a clutch problem or raise the issue with the dealer and perhaps you can work something out. Glad you were able to spot the issue before you brought the car home. Good luck.

He's just pissed Man U won the champions league. Chelsea fans

Also I would stay away from the 06's, they had a lot of oil consumption issues. I know it's a bold statment but after what I've read I'd shoot for an 05 or 07.

I kind of experienced this a few times as well. It was when I first bought the car. When I would aggressively shift into third it would do what your saying. I figured out it was because I wasn't pushing the clutch ALL THE WAY in. My last car, you could just gently push the clutch and release it really quick. But with the Z, I've found you actually have to push it in the entire way. So it took a little adjusting and it doesn't happen anymore. So maybe you just didn't fully engage the clutch? Did you ask the dealer. I'm guessing someone who works there was with you when you test drove it. Did they say anything?

it sounds like it might be a synchro issue.... does it just lock out 3rd and not let you go in or does it grind in third? every now and then when my car gets cold (yes there is cold in texas like 3 days in the year) my sunchros had a habit of not letting me go into gears as easily (gotta remember it is a pretty heavily gated shifter unlike most cars) also like one of the guys was saying they do some crazy stuff when low on fuel....

If the transmission is not working properly, I would look at a different car. I know. Call me crazy.
