Default Nissan Extended Warranty

I am picking up my 350Z on Monday. Has anyone had any experience with their warranty yet? How do you guys feel about the Nissan extended warranties?

I just turned in my leased '99 Boxster and the warranty on that car was absolutely awsome, and was 48 month. If something went wrong they would replace without question or cost to me. So an extended was not needed.

I am just looking for experiences and thoughts.

Thanks everyone.

Default Extended Warranty

I purchased the Gold warranty from Nissan, 72 months/100,000 bumper to bumper. It was pricey at $2500 but worth it. DO NOT purchase the tire and theft warranty, I got jipped on those 2. Just not worth it. So just stick with the extended and you'll be fine. They have lower priced warranties but the one I got was the highest they go. Good luck! and be sure and haggle, haggle, haggle.

It comes with a 3 year warranty already. Why bet several hundred dollars that something that expensive is going to go wrong in year 4 or 5? If you have problems in years 1 - 3 you will have an opportunity to buy an extended warranty later anyway. Plus, you can probably get one cheaper than Nissan's, too. If you have lots of problems over the first 3 years, you're going to probably look at getting rid of the car. Finally, the dealer does not generally let you have the extended warranty at their cost - they mark it up so that they can make money on you buying insurance! What's up with that?

I say, don't get it. It's not a wise investment (IMHO).

I spoke with Nissan corporate customer service about a month ago, and was told that there is no extend warranty that they offer that is truly like the original three-year full coverage that comes with the car. All their extended warranties that they offer are somewhat limited not all-inclusive like the original. I know at the dealership they throw out the phrase " bumper to bumper "supposedly that is not correct.

The nissan warranty can be fully refunded (Prorated) up until it expires. Plus its transferrable to any new owner. Bam, just paid for itself right there. How'd you like to be able to sell your 3 year old car and say its fully covered for another 3 or 4 years?

The only limitations of the warranty is the parts of the engine that experience normal wear and tear. Even then if you are a smooth talker chances are you can get the dealer to honor more.

That was my though as well. You never purchase an extended warrenty hoping to get you money out of it. I would preffer my car to never need it, but I still like to know I have it just in case. And if I do end up selling this car it will be a major plus for who ever buys it. I was able to get my gold warrenty for $1250, and I have no regrets.

Default Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the info. That is exactly what I was thinking. The one thing I had worried about was that the warranty is only 3 years. I kept my Boxster for as long as I had a warranty which was four years. I am planning on keeping the Z a little longer though.

Thanks again.

My pickup date has been pushed untill tomorrow. I plan on getting the warranty then.

Can you let us know what you end up paying for the extended warranty, and what it actually covers in writing.

Thanks

Don't buy it if you are going to mod your Z. I bought the Gold or whatever the higher one was then called a few days later when I realized I was going to void every aspect of the warrant anyways.
