Default 350Z the new 240?

What do guys think about this? Just like bugs, camaros, etc. All will be phased out sooner or later, but they are still around. Recently I see a lot of 240's making way for Z's because of price and power. I mean why buy a suped 240 with an SR and 100K miles, when you can get a low mileage stock Z for the same price nowadays.

just venting, but has anyone else thought about this? Is everyone just getting with the times or is the 350Z getting old?

In a way its a good thing... the more kids and driftos get a hold of the 350's, the more will be totaled and off the streets, which means the amount seen on the street will decrease Keep your Z's in good shape, and in a few years we may start to regain some sort of exclusivity.

I dont get it...

thats like saying why buy a suped up (insert car here) when you can buy a stock (insert same car newer model here). Of course stock is always going to be cheaper.. unless the person has ragged out their car with lots of miles on it

and as some one mentioned... The early model of the car is now 5 years old. Its about time the price started coming down pretty significantly. Especially with a new model on the horizon

I dont care how rare or unrare a car is. There are TONS of new Vettes out here where I live.. and I dont go down the road and go 'eh.. another vette' .. I go, hey.. thats a sexy car. Looks nice.

...but maybe that just me. /shrug

Yup, it is just you. I go eh' another vette about 30 times a day. actually saw three C6's in one parking lot last night....not all lined up or anything, all in different parts of the lot.

Old men w/ ED going "I want to be young again, I'll get a vette."

Oh and to OP, Z's hold their values pretty well compared to many other cars IMO. Have to remember that 5 yrs is an "Old car" in many dlr's eyes.

yup... a dealer or a quality used car dealership as in a ford dealerships used car section will typically not carry a car more than 4 years old on their lot. older cars that are accepted as trade-ins quickly go to the cash lots - typically on the bad part of town.

as for the op's question: ive been in the drift thing for a while and yes, quite a bit of people try to buy Z's because its nearly drift ready from the get go...

as 240's become more rare and 350z become cheaper and cheaper i see tons of guys who have the money by 03 higher mileage Z's out there and use them almost solely as their drift/play car. heck any craigslist in most towns you can find a Z for 13/14K sometimes.

240 is a sexy car though.....easily modded and still a lot of fun for cheap price/inexpensive build in comparison to a Z still.

but im sure one day the Z will be the same way...like all cars as they get older..

I definitely think the 350z will turn into what a 240 is now. The car is getting older and more affordable and like what somebody else said its already pretty much drift ready. When all is said and done it comes down to affordability and being that the 03 z's are already 5 years they are becoming very affordable.

I disagree. The 240SX in not even in the same catagory as the Z. Look at the first 240Z finding one in excellent condition will cost you. I just saw a 1982 280ZX Turbo in good condition selling for $5k and a Z32TT thats another story I sold my 91TT for 12K and it was in "good condition". But, I have seen the price for a 93TT with low miles go for up to 20K. So if you have a well kept 350Z w low miles it will be worth more in the long run. Remember our Z's are the first model run after the ZX was discontined in 1996in the US.

Because a 240 with SR is a different car than the Z...

Exactly.

And to the OP are you trying to talk smack against the 240z or something with your " the 240 had a good run but it's our turn" comment? Your obviously someone who knows nothing of Z heritage and only knows about the 350z. The 240z is and will always be the King of Z cars and sadly, aside from being the current Z, the 350z is really nothing special in the Z world. I see the 350z becoming the Z31 of the Z world in a few more years. Cheap to own, fun to play with, doesn't respond well to mods due to n/a, gets the job done for the price. It'll never be an S30 (if you know what that is) nor will it have the halo status that the Z32TT has. I love the 350z but your comments are just arrogant

OP, you're an idiot! You have no concept on the differences between a 240SX & a 350Z. Just to show other forum members how stupid you are, below is a post you made on another thread -- you obviously don't know that the 350Z heritage goes back to the 240Z:

Lets face it the 350Z aint winning **** but drift competitions. If that were a true sport car list in chronological order the 350Z would be way down the ladder and the corvette would be top 10.

I'm not going to try to compare the 240 and the 350 because I'm not real familiar with the whole heritage aspect. But, from what was said above about the 350Z not holding its value is pretty true. You can get a Z at a very reasonable price now, but what really gets me is why a S2K thats a couple years older and more mileage is still, in some cases, more expensive to buy than a Z. Maybe I'm missing the big picture here, but I guess I can't justify why the s2000 holds its value over time. Is it just because its a Honda and its reliable?

There is mot many 240SX where I live. You will see a couple at shows and every once in a while you will see one for sale and they are asking alot for a 15+year old car. The cars are usually hacked together. I see more kids buying DSM then anything up here just more of them around and really cheap.

The 350Z still looks good as long as you like it and plan on keeping it who cares.

i think some people here on this forum are about to or already angry because they're awesome 350z is being compared to a 240...
Which, if most were "really" into the car scene/import/trends/style/and innovations you would know that the 350z is going in the exact same direction as the 240...
Think about it. No 240's ever came turbocharged...Same config/setup/modern styling for the time...
Sounds just like our 350z's now.
Which to tell everyone the truth, is one of the TOP 3 reasons i purchased my 03 z..
Ive lived in cali all my life and have been into the "scene" before i even started high school and im only 20....
So i def. think the 350z will become the next 240 esp. since alot of 350z drift cars are doing motor swaps now...
Im not worried but i know 85% of the Z community will be. The fact that in a couple years the 350 will be the new 240 and the only thing that will make your 350z any kind of special is the uniqueness/rarity/and style of your 350. The rest will just be a crowd of 350s with bad rim selection and too much of a conservative drop..
Just look at the scene now. You have to really know your sh*t to get ahead in the 240 brackets nowadays...
/thread

..no hard feelings to anyone..i love this forum!

All i know is that right now 240's with an SR swap whop the stock Z's butt on the drift course.

thats pretty much the only reason why a 240 should have an SR in it..drifting!

other than that, ive only seen a few 240's out at autoX events. thats very rare...and talking to those guys they are like "I dont wanna ruin it drifting, the car is to pretty after my body kit" yada, yada...

Far as drifting is concerned. im sure in the years to come as the Z's get cheaper and parts come down the Z will surely replace the 240 on the drift scene definately....

i mean, i cant image when the Z is 10-12 years old turbo kits new wont cost what they cost now...heck in that time frame (same time frame of 240's now) people with Z's will be buying used turbo kits from other Z members for really cheap. we will see threads like the 240 forums. "rolling Z chasis for sale", "turbo kit for sale", etc...

Wrong The 240,260,280,Z's from 69-78 were all NA. Also check your history the SX has been around since the 80's. The SX is a step below the Z its not even in the same catagory.
