I think I may try putting it in the shaded area right above (to the left or right) the rearview morror. Heck, if it works while in your cubby or under the seat, then it should work there!
yeah you should be good man i used to take it out of the cubby but hell i dont even open the cubby now i just cruise through never had it not pick up yet.

I keep mine in the cubby as well and never have a problem.

iPass in Illinois uses something similar. I just keep it in the dash cubby above the radio. Never had a problem.

I stuck mine to the back side of the inspection sticker (in the lower left corner of the windsheild). It fits perfectly and works perfectly. The inspection sticker hides it from view on the outside. The only problem is when you get a new inspection sticker, you loose the velcro and have to redo it.

I also painted one black recently that was stuck to the windshield behind the mirror on another car. Krylon semi-flat black seems to have a severe impact on performance. I had to take the paint off of the window side to make it work worth a crap again. I left the other side of it painted black so it didn't look so obvious inside the car. The Texas heat on that black car kept turning the velcro adhesive to liquid goo so I moved that one down to the inspection sticker too. The velcro adhesive locks onto the paper inspection sticker way better than it does to the slick windsheild.
