You're seeing the dealers that are fed by the Long Beach port. I asked one dealer in TX or OK which port theirs came from and he seemed to think Houston, but I wouldn't bet on it.
We know that the East Coast has two ports (Jacksonville, FL and Newark, NJ) where they come in. The JAX ship arrived today according to a Nissan Rep reported to me by a local dealer.
I believe that NNA puts these VINS into the sytem when they come off the boat and they take them off when the dealer sends something to them to show they were delivered or sold.
We are all making the assumption that the cars are manufactured in VIN order. I don't know if that is true or not. It does seem interesting that people are reporting that cars that are identical to theirs (model, color) have VINs that are close.
Second to looking at photos of people with their cars, this is the funnest thing we've had to do in awhile.

I ordered mine from Andy Ryan Nissan which is located pretty close to lexington ky. i have had my VIN for a week now. would you guess that my z is on the first shipment to jacksonville or maybe on a later one to NJ?

I just did a VIN check for the OKC area and nada, of course, but I'm in the 1400's and my del. date is 9/12. It is a good mechanism for checking your surrounding areas close to your due date or earlier. I'm just now lining up financing and my wife thought I was nuts since we are 3 wks from the due date. I asked her, "what if it shows up a week to 10 days early and we're not ready"? It could happen and we would have to do some fast shuffling for financing.
Needless to say, we are now in process w/our credit union, but we are holding some info back because the loan is only good for 30 days. We will just hold the extra info until a few days from now as a cushion and then finalize. Now I feel like an almost owner of a new Z. I like it, a Lot.

Love the View Dealer Inventory feature. Found a local dealer with a Brickyard listed so I called. He said he had 3 Z's in house that just came off the truck. All 3 owners were going to be there tonight to pick them up. I have about 30 minutes to get over there to see the Brickyard.

Boomer,
Didn't make it up to see the Brickyard. Traffic too thick. It had the charcoal leather anyway. I did stop by another Bay Area Nissan dealership that had 2 cars listed in inventory. They really had one. The salesman just heard about the website that day from a customer, not from NNA. The car he had was for the owner of the dealership, so he was letting folks sit in it, rev it up, play with the stereo. The car had 28 miles on it. The salesman had gone on a little spin. Said he drove it pretty hard through a couple of corners. He was a very happy man. He plans to make a lot of money from this car.
The car came in 10 days before they were expecting it. Sounds like their next few deliveries will be early too. Nissan may have gotten the most important thing about the preorder program right - get the cars out early!

Do you know the name of the ship that came in to Jax? It would be great information to know.

Yes, go to nissandriven.com, go to the "design or search for your nissan" page, enter a zip code. If you can find a dealer with stock it will list the VIN. Try 90210 if you want to see one.

Boomer,
I saw the pictures of the Frost. Really like the way they lightened up all of the interior surfaces - dash, door panels, console, Strut brace cover, panel behind seat with the DVD & glovebox - It looks good in the silver and white, but will be outstanding in the darker colors, especially Brickyard. The Daytona Blue/Frost combination will be stunning too.
Can't wait to see the Brickyard/Frost combo in person. Every new combination I see, far surpasses my expectations and I'm a pretty fussy old cuss.
