well if haven't noticed that there are plenty of cars out there that are FI from factory... heck even acura even started to join the fun of FI in they're rdx model(i think its the rdx) and thats a HONDA going FI..

well they did it in the past, why wouldn't they do it again.. think about it.. the turbo'd 240/280/300 are soon to become collectors items and hard to come by.. they use to cost a pretty penny back in the day.. also think of the resale value.. compared to regular 350z.. i've seen the 350z's dipped down to the $11k range for the 03's. i've seen 300zx tt still in the high teen's which was a 91tt..
No but everything else is.

Been in a Heffner viper and a roe Viper. I still prefer the roe one.

I think the Z would be fun with a factory S/C roots system, but I also think they've done well with a nice NA engine. if you look at the VQ alone, its been well ahead of its competition with regards to power and versatility (different version with different power/fuel consumption etc).

Aside from the small cars like sentra and versa its offered in some variant in every nissan/ infiniti car or truck (excluding titan/armarda chassis).

I would like to see more revs and more power from the NA-VQ. 320whp with 8k rpm's sounds a lot more fun than an equivalent F.I. setup and I used to own a stage-3 300ZX-TT.

I own a TT BMW and also a NISMO, and yes the BMW does take off quicker (virtually no turbo lag), but the 1/4 mile times on both are comparable. I actually enjoy driving the NISMO better. I love the way it handles, just a blast to drive. I also have a 76 Mini that only has about 50hp, however it handles like a go-cart on steriods! Another fun car to drive! HP is a little over-rated.

IMO, if the Z came from the factory TT, it probably would be on a different engine and would still only have about 300-350HP.

Due to inflation, you are also buying a 350z with cheaper dollars than you were a 300ZX...if you compound 2.5% inflation annually over 10-12 years, that makes the 300 look very expensive.

P= Price of 300ZX
R= Rate of Inflation over stated period
T= Number of years

P(1+R)^T will give you a an estimate of the 300zx's price in today's dollars. The 350 looks like a better deal, right?

The 240 never came with a turbo, neither did the 260. The 280 had a single turbo option as did the Z31 300ZX. 90 or 91 were the first TT years. And $40,000 in '95 dollars would be close to $50k today. Not much market for that. Remember, only 1500 GT-Rs were scheduled for the US, since upped I think to 2000. the 350 sold 34,000 for the '03, more in later years.

1. Of course, the production costs. Probably different engine platform, has to be built, etc.
2. Hello! What's more obvious than gas prices. Turbo's aren't usually the greatest gas efficient mod on the market.
3. Too much power which would divert a good amount of sales. Some people don't need or want that power.
4. Treat it wrong and bye bye car and hello heavy rod knock aka bye bye engine.

There are alot of things that tie into a turbo from the factory. Nissan made a smart move for the economy (not so much for us enthusiasts) with not going turbo simply because of the large amount of problems they foresee in the future.

Damn you Nissan but that you at the same time.
1. yeah i understand production cost.. but why not just added it as a option? like scion with the trd supercharger?

2. well who knew the gas prices would rise like this.. did nissan know about the rise back in pre-production stages? if so.. i would like to know there sources so that i can get the winning lotto numbers for next week's drawing.. if you think about it. hummers get like 10-13mpg... you gotta pay to play.. if you can't afford the gas.. you can't afford the car (not talking to you directly)

well every car will always have they're issues..

i was just inputing my oppinon that i'd rather have a car that came turbo from the factory that would be street legal and spend a couple hundred on suspension. just think about the possiblities..

but yeah..

i understand why they didn't make it.. but just wondered the why they didn't.

Turbos are not meant for everybody, and the 300zx is not that fast

What confuses me is the OP doesn't list a performance reason (except for the sound of a BOV and the fact that SOME) older generation Z's came with turbos. What is real telling is he is willing to part with the very good handling characteristics of the 350Z for a factory turbo.

Well, the fact is not all previous generations came with forced induction and loud BOV's sound like rice...

Yup, and....? Everybody knows that they don't make the cars like they use to. Maybe its just me, but i feel like 300zx and the 350z is not that fast stock!

People get on here and make it seem like they were driving a 600rwhp monster, uncontrolable beast .... "300zx is so crazy fast!" lol, okay. I think it just depends on what you have driven or rode in.

Stock, they're nothing to write home about. It's their potential that gets me hooked.

Due to Nissan's money problems at the time they needed a fast sleek reliable car that was very economical so that the consumer could afford it then and after the initial buy. ( predicted gas pricing) The Z was brought back as the stepping stone to bringing Nissan back on it's feet as it was back when the Z 1st originated. (might as well use the power of the Z twice). As NA it had the power to be just as fast if not faster than cars with FI applications. (evo-sti) Not too many people bought those cars, and the ones that did realize driving a GO CART (evo) on a daily basis ain't so fun!! Besides Nissan cant have 2 SUPER CARS with the Z and the GTR! One of them has to be a sports car, and the Z took that spot.
