Default how long should they test drive your car?

i had new pads and rotors put on the front and rear of my car today, as well as an oil change... everything seems find except they drove my car for 9 miles... that seems a bit extensive to test to see if my brakes were ok? what do you guys think? or am i just being too suspicous. i noticed some kid i know who works there and he has a cobalt SS that he **** pounds... so im just kinda worried?

Well my good sir, be glad it was only 9 miles and not 300. I had my car transported here from my home town. The funny thing is my car managed to magically gain 300 miles on the odo reading even though it was riding on a big truck. This is one of the problems ive had since i got this car (not the cars fault other than it being so beautiful other cars want to touch it) . Im currently dealing with that and a hit and run. Didnt mean to one up you, but I do feel your pain b/c who the hell knows how someone else drove your car.

OP: Yeah, that punk was ragging out your car, calling all his little buddies to race before he brought your car back... Doing burnouts, doughnuts, drifting, etc... At least you got it back in one piece.

My ecu is reflashed with a valet map, and I also have a valet map on my utec... No fun for punks. Lol~

When I got arrested (falsely, but that's another story for another time) in my SRT4, I got it back from Impound and the alcohol tank was empty...which means someone said "what's this switch do"....then was over 10PSI for a long time...since the tank holds a gallon...I was pissed...

i feel your pain, when i had my S2000 i had it at the shop for random misfire while doing around 60mph, i cleared the trip miles, went to pick it up and it had 120miles on it, WTF? so yeah i was pretty pissed and THEY DID NOT GET PAID BECAUSE THEY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM! so from here on out, I am writing up a contract that they must sign that states the car will be driven no more than two miles if that(while recording the actual mileage in front of them), if they refuse to sign then i will go somewhere else, and if i can get off work the car won't be test driven at all without me in it.

only 9 miles? i would make sure your new pads/rotors got properly bedded in during that time. though if done right that could be close to the mileage needed to do it.

yeah i didnt think they needed to drive 9 miles. the pads themselves stated to get the car up to 30mph two times and stop slowely. then up to 40 stoping hard 2 times and then they are set. so ide say that should be maybe a mile then a mile back...

When I purchased my bike, I did a deal with them where I observed while they assembled it from the shipping crate, then I signed the paperwork allowing me to do the initial break-in on the dealer's test track. Hence, allowing a brakepad-monkey to f*** with my car is totally out of the question - anything other than ZERO miles is unacceptable.

I use to work at a Toyota dealer as a tech. The length of our test route was, due to the dealer being on the highway, about 4 miles. If I had to do back roads for slow speed stuff the route was slightly longer. The usual routine is test drive, do the job, then test drive to make sure the job is done. So right there you are at 8 miles

Personally when I did brake jobs (or other mechanical repairs) I made sure to throughly test the vehicle and make sure I was returning a safe car. However I do know that some guys will take the car to get dunkin donuts or some **** like that. 8-10 miles to me is acceptable. Once you get to the teens it's questionable.

The only time it is really acceptable for the dealer to put 20-30 miles is for hard to find interior rattle where you have to remove one interior piece at a time, then test drive, until you find the culprit. Also an intermittent fault that is hard to diagnose requires some mileage to be put on the vehicle.

I never abused the privilege, but there are definitely some douche bags out there that will. My .02 cents

Oh yeah I just wanted to add this. I just brought my car in for a water leak. In this case it better not have more than one mile on it.

to test brakes you need to stop...not drive miles then stop.

we drove less than 2 miles if bedding new brakes....now diagnosing could take many many more...depending on the issue...most of the time we could diagnose w/o driving much at all....but we are apparently better than the avg alignment/brake/suspension shop.

you could avoid this whole problem and save yourself some money by DIY.

i had my z in the body shop (my fault) i guess one of the guys took the car to nearby casino to pick his girl that worked there...to make a long story short my gurl found her nametag in the car didnt look good at all...i went to the body shop to found who took my car i guess they fired the guy for other reason......

yeah not only that but in there 9 miles of testing i guess they didnt realize something is rubbing with the brakes up front. cuz theres a loud noise up front, the radio has to be atleast level 14 to not hear it lol...im going back tommorrow, idk what they will do since i supplied my own products they may just blame that....

Own a shop and do my own work THANK GOD!!!! but when i do brakes i go around the block, slow and make the ABS work on some gravel. That pushes out the caliper pistons good, and i know the cars good after that. No need to go 9 miles...less he just wanted to go for a ride!
