Default My average measured MPG stats for my 08 Z

This is my gas consumption and stats from the last 4 months since I got my car. I'll try to make some pretty charts and better stats later. New 2008 350Z, stock everything.

I reset my trip meter and trip computer each time I get gas and fill up to the first click, wait a moment, and grab the handle until the second click.

I've made a column that calculates a percentage difference between the measured and the trip computer readout. Another column marks any changes that might affect MPG or driving habits, such as moving to LA. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, I'd drive 3 hours to LA to hang out for the weekend, at least once a month.

The alignment was for tire feathering.

It seems like if your driving habits are inconsistent prior to getting gas, the computer won't have enough data to accurate pin down your MPG. For example, doing all city driving, then take a 25 mile freeway drive and getting gas.

Once I figure out how to do it, I'll average the last two columns.

Prospective buyers may find this useful. Existing owners might find it interesting.

I'm a huge nerd.

Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Ignore the price per gallon for 9/20.

must've been pushing it hard on 8/13. but if you don't do that once in a while, there's no point in having the car. I drive 90% highway miles daily. I avg about 25mpg.

That is sweet.

I want to do my own, but I'm not patient enough.

Yeah, surprising, huh? Maybe I got a Friday car. If my windows are completely down, I can hear them rattle when I close the door and I found a loose nut behind the driver seat when I took delivery of the car.

I had a dealership align my car and if it comes back, before 12k miles, they'll give me new tires or something.

You could just write down the trip reading, and OBC readings before I reset them every time I get gas. The only annoying part is putting them in excel.

As an engineer, I appreciate this sort of analysis. That said - if you really care this much about your gas mileage, you really should be driving a Sentra...or something.

Who said I cared about getting good gas mileage? I would have bought a Honda Fit (I almost did) in that case.

The Z makes twice the HP and gets slightly better gas mileage than what I used to drive, so I count that as a positive net gain.

The formula is:

=average(insert cell numbers or range)

Example:

Specific cell average - =AVERAGE(A9,A22,A26)

Range of cells average - =AVERAGE(A1:M1)

Have fun!

You might want to check out www.fuelly.com . I think you can track all that info on there and it's free.
I'm listed there under the name dancon52 and have my DD 2008 Dodge Charger and my '05 Roadster registered there.

Cool site! In this case he's also trying to track the variance between the OBC and actual. The results should be interesting.

I sense that on 8/13 you found some very good roads. Or let someone borrow your car haha. Hopefully the first one.

i feel that it is inconsistent without using more of the tank at a time....call me supersticious....

i get different (read: WORSE) calculations when i go off of less than at least 3/4 tank used....

putting up 5-9 gallons never gave me proper readings....IN ANY VEHICLE...

thanks for taking the time for that though...i calculate every tank in my truck and my car.....so, i can definitely appreciate the time that went into it.....

Yes, I've noticed when I drive like I'm driving a Prius, I can get 25 MPG. For it to be fun, you should be getting under 20 MPG. I have come to a sweet spot, by hitting 18 MPG all the way to public transportation.

My daily commute is 93 miles one way. I typically go as fast as I can there and back, speed limit is 70. When I get there quick (NOT 70 LOL) I get about 21-22 mpg. One day I left early and I set myself a limit no slower than 55 no faster than 60...32.2 MPG. Great but 55 is not easy. On the way home that evening I bumped it up slow 60, high 65...29.3 MPG. So I guess my point is if you want to drive it like a prius you can get descent mileage. Me, Id rather drive the **** out of it and pay a few extra bucks.
