Default Leaving the Z family

I am sad to say that it looks to be around 5-6 hours away from my trading my Z for another vehicle. I have been a proud owner for slightly over 5 years now... yet there are a few things that have been driving me crazy that I cant stand... but its been a great 5 years... I am about to jump into an even more problematic car so lets see if this car drives me even more crazy lol. if the sale/trade goes through tonight ill make sure to post pictures.

high school kids trying to act gangsta in thier use Z's lol drives me nuts? The amount of money that it costs aftermarket to have a Z at high HP safely. (sorry I dont consider stock motor FI safe no matter what you do.) i feel it is very hard to compete with alot of the newer cars. also alot of the build quality issues are kinda rough... i might have been just my car... but the paint was ridiculous. random little things I cant remember.

im not saying this fd will solve me of all these problems but im just saying it will be something different. also i want a car i dont see everytime I drive around the block lol.

rx7's are very fun cars, I am fond of them, I drove a couple growing up. weak *** base models though with no turbo

as any sportscar ages it becomes more affordable used, so you can't ever stop that. the one saving grace is that it costs an assload to insure the car for anyone in that age bracket, so unless they are spoiled they aren't getting it

I find Z's to be pretty damn rare in my area, I bump in to one maybe once, twice a week. but I'll be damned if I see any rx7's out there anymore. GL, should be a fun car, just hope you dont have issues, they can be pretty expensive to work out and there aren't a lot of mechanics that know the car well.

well mechanic wise i should be okay with any good shop around the area that is familiar with the LS motors. This isnt the rotary so im expecting maintenance to be fairly low.

I went from a FD to a Z last month.

I hope you are prepared for disapprobation from just about everyone. Most FD fans think doing a ls6 swap is a cardinal sin. Those that don't own FD's are either jealous or hate on the FD. All FD owners have a love-hate relationship with their cars.

There are some like-minded crazies on www.rx7club.com that have or are doing engine swaps on the FD. Lots of good information and help there. Good luck and enjoy. I just pray to God that this isn't going to be your DD.

hehe will be a DD. like i said there is a 1% chance i wont go through with it and just keep the Z. rx7club.com is great for information, and also v8rx7forum.com is the forum that the LS motor swapped rx7 people seem to go and there is alot of info on there.

i just hope in a month or 2 i dont regret my decision lol.

Good luck with your future automobile endeavors

Just to make some points:

Paint on an '03 vs paint on a ~93. 10 year difference, and unless the FD was garage kept, what condition will the paint is going to be in?

Buying used, older, performance car - to me, you are just asking for problems. Granted, this isn't the rotary engine, but who knows what this thing has been through (read: beaten)

Can't keep up with "newer cars" - why is this important?

FD's are pretty...LS1's, not a fan. but hey, enjoy your new project car.

wear good rubber soled shoes...I heard a few LS1 powered FD owners have been struck by lightning. I guess God agrees, its a SIN

Seriously reconsider the FD as a DD. The Z is roomy compared to the FD. You NEVER want to drive the FD in snow, particularly with an LS6 that will have more torque than the rotary. The FD chassis can't be beat for handling, but it is 15 years old and you will experience some down time. It is a pain to have a problem with the car torn apart and realize that you have to put it together to get to work on Monday morning. Get a cheap DD as backup. The ls6 will be more reliable obviously than the rotary, but even so....

Paint has improved dramatically in the last 15 years. My '94 had original paint and still looked awfully good. The '93 was known for some paint problems with some colors. So while the paint won't be as good, you can always repaint if it needs it. Besides, the beautiful lines of the FD can more than make up for a little paint problem.

IDK why you would buy a FD w/ a ls6 when you could just buy a vette but good luck with the car. I know I already miss my Z, lol.
