"350Z vs Z06, Discuss"-Remember Coffee Talk?
given that the big bits are carryed over from other vehicles in Nissan's lineup, we are not getting a "brand new" car design. A lot about reliability can be gleened from Maxima/Altima stats. Now, the trans is brand new, but you also have to take into account a company's past record when introducing new cars. Nissan has a much better record of reliability than GM overall, so I would expect that the trend will continue.
So yes, even though we don't have our cars yet, I think it is safe to compare reliability between the two. How many C4s do you see on the road these days compared to Z32s? That should tell you a lot about reliability.
While the Z06 will blow away the Z in every performance stat, I am buying a long term car here, and what the car will be like at 100K miles is just as important as what it can do off the showroom floor.
Of course if someone GAVE me a Z06, I would drive the **** out of it for a year or so, then sell it and get a long term car. But since that only happens in the movies (and I am not an actor), I guess its the Z for me.

I dont want to start anything here, I am in LOVE with the new Z-car. ALL car companies have their problems. When you have more cars on the road of course there are going to be more recorded problems with vehicles. My friends M5 is a real POS it is constantly in the shop. For 80large you would think you would get a Reliable car.
Speaking of which, was the car a Dodge Reliant, how contradictory is that.

There are too many good points and humorous posts to address them all. I've been away for a day but have read them all with great intrest.
For me the issue is like this:
If I get the 350Z it's got great performance and makes a fine daily driver. I'd keep my Altima for the winter. I'd have less fun more often.
If I get a Z06 I'd shrink rap it and stick it in my garage. I'd be drving the Altima most of the time (which I'm tired of) and only take the Z06 out once in a while to romp on it. More fun less often.
Driving the Z06 reminded me of the first time I rode a street bike. The day I purchased and rode the FRZ600 with a Vance & Hinze pipe and Stage III jet kit home from the dealer. I guess I'm looking for that feeling again.

oh yeah. Id take the keys to a Z anyday it would just be a dream to drive one of those.
yeah my dad generally buys american cars so far we have had the reliant, an 85 dodge ram (leaked oil but otherwise solid car), 92 acclaim (no major problems except funky alarm),96 caravan(not one single solitary problem. My dad says with the way the cars he buys turn out for him he has no reason to switch car companies. I have a 2000 nissan sentra Its alright but it lacks *****.
I am sure some of you guys remember me. I was the one that told you guys about the deal i go on the Z06, and about half of you believed me.
Anyways, now that i got my Z06, i will tell you my HONEST opinion about the car.
1) like i mentioned before, i got this thing cheap, cheaper then the 350Z. I am paying $490/mth for this car. I think i would be paying more for the 350Z, from looking at some of the lease payments that some of you gave here on this site. As far as insurance, i am paying $1500/yr. Thats about 130/mth, which is excellent.
2) Well, lets admit it guys, when we get our cars, 80% of the time our first question is "so, how fast is it". Well, let me tell you this.
If you arent driving a Diablo 6.0, Mclaren F1, or Porche GT2, then you pretty much dont have a chance against the Z06. This is stock vs. stock of course. This car is so incrediblly fast, it is scary. So performace wise, you pretty much get the idea.
3) The interior isnt bad. It isnt the best either. I hate how GM decided to have the same stereo in it as they do for every single chevy car for the past like 4 years. I DIDNT LIKE THAT. But they have a BOSE in it, which kinda made up for it. The seats are the most confortable seats i have ever sat in in my whole life. When you sit in them, you sink in them. They hug your body so well too, it is awesome. And this is coming from some1 that was driving a 328 Ci. No comparison in comfort. The dash and the side panels are ok, kind of cheap looking. Actaully, there are no side panles at all. But overall of the dash looks ok, not great. The gauges are soo cool. They have checkerboard gagus that really stand out, and they have Z06 signs on them, its really cool.
4)The ride itself isnt bad. It all depends on the road your on. If you are on a smooth road, it feels sooo good and it is so smooth.
If you are on a bumpy road, well, you feel every littel tiny bump. But, this is a sports car. I am not sure if you feel bumps more in one car then the other, but in this one since you sit soo low too, you feel all the bumps.
Overall:
IMO, it is one of the sweetest looking cars on the road, that is why i wanted it in the first place.
Would i rather have a Z06 over a 350Z if i can have them both at the same price? most definatly.
Would i rather have the Z06 if i had to pay 52k for it? No.
P.S.- For those of you that gave me crap and didnt believe me that i was getting the Z06, like Kyle i believe it was, this is for you, and to make it more special, it is in my pj's just when i woke up.
Enjoy your 350Z's everybody

I like black Z06 because the cooling ducts for the rear brakes don't stand out.
Good luck. If you see me out there on the street don't blow my doors off too bad.
BTW a 360 modena and a 911 turbo will hang. I was checking out the Z06 and owners were saying that the 360 has been clocked as fast as the Z06. But again we're talking cars that cost 2-3 times as much as the Z06.

As a past Z06 owner let me share this:
Too Fast:
I first drove the ZO6 on a road race track. My opinion of Vette's changed instantly. The Z06 is the finest road car I ever drove on a track. Incredible brakes, stable, blows off the corners, a near race-car experience. So I bought one.
On the street I realized that I couldn't begin to touch its limits. And then there is the self control aspect. Say a Boca Yuppie shows up in a Testarossa Ferrari. All of a sudden I want to teach him to spend less time driving and more time reading car magazines -- because the Z06 slips into the twelves. Next thing 125 mph in town.
Unless you have the control of a saint, youre gonna get in over your head. IMHO it's too fast to have fun with it on the street.
Too Big:
I've always felt the Vette is too big. Like a car about the size of the air-cooled 911's. I like the feel of a smaller, tidier car. The new Z looks like it fits the bill.

Hey guys, thanx for the congrats. Much appreciated.
I love this car so much. I have had it for 3 weeks, and till this day i look forward to the sunny days to just put 200 miles on it that day. hehe.
As someone mentioned before, the brakes on this thing are just unreal. It hugs the corners like no other, and it is extremely sharp looking.
I hope you all enjoy your Z's as much as i am enjoying my Z.
And dont worry, i wont blow the dorrs of you if i see you on the road. I dont race cars that i respect. I got this car for style andd design, not so i can go race everycar on the road. I know better. The 350Z is gonna be one hell of a car, and i know it. Everyone be safe and enjoy your cars. And if any of you see me on the road, make sure you say hello. Take care everyone

I can relate. It sounds counter logical, but I like to feel like I'm pushing my car. I had a 1.9L Z3 that really was too slow, but I loved grabbing redline in the first few gears. I could do that in the Z3 and the 350Z, but the Z06 might be too fast for the street.
