Post "350Z vs Z06, Discuss"-Remember Coffee Talk?

"I think I'm getting vaclempt!"

Seriously, if you could drive a '01 Z06 or a '03 350Z which would you pick? Let's say someone was about to hand you the keys to one of them.

Also, I test drove a TT 225 HP, A4 1.8T, A6, C5 Convertable, S2000, TL Type-S, WRX, GTP, Jag X-Type & G35 (dosen't all make sense but I was having fun) within the last two weeks. None of these cars could lure me away from the 350Z except...

I drove a cherry Z06. It filled me with lust to look at it and when I stepped on the accelerator it felt like somebody punched me in the stomach and kicked me in the nuts!

I also experienced the same sensation when I called my insurance agent about the Z06!

well I couda had a V8. I was close to buying a 2002 Z06 for $47K or there abouts. But I did not dig the interior and the head room was not great, and it is wider and longer than the Z and the turning radius is much larger. I asked 2 different dealers if I could test drive the Z06 and they looked at me as if I were from mars.

WTF? One lady (I hate lady salesmen) told me why don't I go down to the used showroom and see if they would let me drive a used one. Now I am no bum and I had brought along my check books to but the ****er cash, and this was the attitude I got? So I said thanks but no thanks.

I know it's fast, but I think the 350Z will have a little git up and go. I am not into stoplight show downs with SVT cobras, etc.. Just as long as I can beat 90% of the cars out there and the 350Z has that covered.

Also I am getting a track ($35K) and plan on doing a couple things to it, and that extra $12K will come in handy. I know if I put $6K into the 350Z I would have ended up putting the same into the Z06.

If in 3 years I think the 350Z is too slow I will look at the next gen corvette as well as the next gen M3, NSX, and supra.

That's a great line: I coulda had a V8.

BTW, Don't forget if the Z ends up being too slow, there is apparantly a 450HP turbo Z on the horizon.

I am a former owner of an 01' Vette Roadster, loved the car. It had more power than you can realistically use in any type of urban driving environment, never mind the added 50HP of the ZO6. With some minor mods the car had 330rwhp and 343tq. It just hauled *** everywhere. On the flip side, thought the build quality was good, it was no where near as tight as the Z. The stereo was the same unit you would find in a Lumina, I had to have the entire clutch replaced at 8K miles do to incorrect assembly at the factory. High temp paint flaked off brake rotors, paint between body panels and rear end, and front nose piece mismatched. I burned through $30 worth of gas everyother day and roasted the rear tires off in 8K miles at $350 apiece. It was a great fun but to many issues. I think the 350Z will be a bit more docile but still vvery high on the fun factor and side by side through the twisties the Z will surely hold its own. THe ZO6 just has to much power on an open track and is a sstellar handling car, but for 15K less the Z is ure to stun some Vette owners.

Car salesmen (saleswomen) are so awsome! When I test drove the C5 convertable, it was from a used car lot near my house. It was the only Vette they had. When the sales guy made his pitch I'm told him I would never buy an automatic. This is what he says... "See, the problem with the manual is the're gonna' put a 6 speed in it. This car has so much horse power you'll never use 5th and 6th gear."

I'm like "WOW! You are good! Your are so full of crap but you're GOOD!"

If I just wanted a fun car to thrash on for a couple of years, and I had a lot of money to throw around, or if I wanted to lease, I'd go with the Z06. You just can't match that car's performance...the closest thing would be a 996 turbo, which is way north of $100g's. I've seen those things on the street, autoX, and track...they are ridiculous!

Build quality, and long term ownership experience...give me the 350Z! At 100,000 on the odometer, the Z is going to be a LOT healthier than the Z06. Well, at any mileage, chances are the 350 will be in better shape. I like the interior in the 350Z about 1000 times better as well.
Those butt-ugly blue and red heater switches look absurd in a $50k car...look like they were sourced straight from a cavalier or something.

I think the Z06 has many similar goals to the 350Z...both cut a few corners on the inside to give performance at an incredible price. I got an enthusiast for a little more than half the price of a Z06....with about 80% of the performance. If I was looking for the ultimate speed machine bang for the buck...you really can't beat the Z06. It's just way more than I would spend at this point in my life.

I would take the keys for the Vette. Sell it right away. And then buy a performance 350Z and have $17,000 to spend on mods or whatever. the only reason I would not keep the vette is because of reliability issues. It will be fun for a while but it will start giving me problems in the long run. Just MHO.

The only other car I purchased ,outside of the 350z, that I have on order was a C5 Corvette. I hated the entire experience. I sold the car after 4 months. I'd never buy another one. There's more to a car than raw power. I thought the build quality was horrible, panels weren't properly alligned, weather stripping looked like it was applied with a puddy knife, the targa top leaked like a sive. When I was ordering the car, I told them I wanted the sport seats, and I was told that I couldn't get them because they weren't making sport seats that week. The entire experience made me scratch my head. I guess it's part of the ol' Corvette Mystique. The last straw was when I complained to the dealership about extreme heat coming from the center console which was literallally making my leg turn red when I rested my leg against the console, because it was so hot, I was told there's nothing wrong with your car's; that's the way it is. Learn to live with it. The car was put on the market the next day.

In my my mind it would be the "z" hands down. I've owned 2 300ax and one TT. The only reason I sopped bying NIssan products is that nissan stopped making sport cars. I have to confess I'm a bit concerned about the appearance of the interior, but for 30k, I'm not going to comlain. I'm back

one word...

DELCO

There was a movie a long time ago (think it was Arthur with Dudley Moore) and it was about (at least in part... saw it a long time ago) advertising.

One of the ads he did was for an electronics company and the comercial showed this little asian man in a lab coat making motherboards really fast. Then in the next scene there was a huge cowboy (hat and all) bent over trying to do the same thing with his huge mits.

The slogan...

'Sony... cuz americans are just too damn big'

I think of that every time I see those stupid ***** and buttons inside domestic cars... they all look like the caps they put on pill bottles for really old people with bad joints. As though they might as well put a big sign overtop that says 'push here stupid'

If i was given the choice to drive either car i would take the Z cause i hate Domestics. My dad however would probably take the Z06 since he owned a '61 Vette (first car), and a '71 Vette.

Ur never gonna use 5th or 6th cause theres too much HP? WTF was the salemen thinking. does he think that u redline the car before shifting? in a 6speed u cruise in 5th, then use 6th on the highway. someone needs to be retrained.

haha a canadian car company..."Royal Canadian Motors"

LMAO!!!
But I must admit, the Z06 is truly an amazing car for the cash and driveability! If we're talking for the same amount of money, I'd probably get the Z06, but then again, I'm a performance head!

I love how everyone is bashing Chevy for reliablity issues. Most of you have not taken delivery of your cars yet, let alone put any sort of mileage on them. Within a few thousand miles you have little/no problems with these cars then you can talk, until then dont bring up reliability.
P.S. I hope nobody has problems with their cars! On the serious trip.

I have owned 3 Nissans -- 2 Zs and a Maxima, they have been very reliable, I have never owned a GM car because my brother decided to be patriotic and buy GM and he had to sell that piece of crap in a year. While its true the Z is brand new, its engine isn't and IMO Nissans are more reliable than GMs.
