Most likely out of his price range of 22-24K for an 07+G sedan........I would find a nice used 07 Z.

GO FOR THE HR!!!
You could probably get an 07 base with your budget.
Then all you need to do is add aftermarket LSD

Save money. Wait 3-5 months, get the 370. Or, buy a replacement, you can get a good 2005 G35 or a 350Z, sell it, then buy the 370Z.

Or, take the 22k and find the best 2004 G35 Coupe you can with Brembo goodness for ~21-22k and 50k or less mileage, that's what I drive:

The sedan won't be found in an '07 for less than much closer to $30k. New model, VQHR, but why buy so new? Lots of Z's and G's are out there with low miles, I've seen a clone of my G with half the miles for $24k asking (25k miles, 2004 MY).

Then later sell it and get a 370Z.

GOOD LUCK

I would rather get DE then Rev up but HR then both of them.
DE much more torquey but Rev up seems much smoother than DE
Drove both? Congatulations on the test drive impressions, but I've owned both of them, put over 70k combined miles. While your Z may "hands" better than your bro's G, there's good reason for that, but nothing you cannot change or address. 03 Z Track > 05 G? Sure, but Bro' you drove the wrong car. I wouldn't trade my '04 G for anything other than a '04 Track 350Z + $3-5k. Get rid of the stock intake, drop in a smooth tube, plenum spacer, F/R Hotchkis sways, F/R STB's, go up to bigger rubber and lighter wheels, like mine, then try it again.

+1 on the DE. I cannot believe the number of HR's I see with losses in the midrange torque, which is what you feel more than peak hp. 7500 rpm redline would be great - IF it made a lot more power than the DE at 6200 rpm, but it doesn't - just gives you more tach to run out before shifting. My DE tested out 3 whp higher in my supposedly lower hp G than my '03 350Z. Same dyno, same shop, pretty similar conditions. Enough to say, 'bout the same power. The '04 G weighs in at 3400 lbs, the '05 is 100 lbs more stock, and the 06-07 even a little heavier than that. Power to weight is a wash.

Of course you wouldn't like it. The G's '05 brakes suck. IMHO all the G/Z brake suck other than Brembos until the 2007 G35 Coupe or the G37, and the 2007 NISMO Z. Looks like the 370Z is finally getting better brakes than an Altima V6 SE (don't believe me? look it up). Faster? Stock G 18" rims heavy. Rays '03 track, 5 lbs lighter or more, very good wheels. That's like feeling +10 more hp at the wheels. Sport 19's light, but not as light as the 18" track Rays - and rolling weight you feel right away, it makes the car slower on the get up and go.

If you don't want a back seat, fine. But compare the two with the same brakes, same stiffness in the sways, similarly light and high quality wheels, tires more comparable (Michie PS2's came on mine and not the 2005). Tires are crap, and you don't do 19's if it had the sport package wheels, and if you do, not go above a 245 rear - what's the point? The car needs more tire.
Point is either car will perform well. Last time I autocrossed my G, I beat 2 drivers with newer 350Z's, and was beaten by a better driver in a BSP classed modded Z. 8" longer car, tight course, didn't matter. My G was set up better than their BS 350Z's, but still very much close to stock, STS/STX level mods only but my larger street tires kicked me up class to ESP simply because I run 275/35/19 R, 245/35/19 front NISMO Ray LMGT4's with Goodyear F1's. That's not even a sticky tire - 280 wear rating vs. my 220 Michies, vs. the 180 or even 140 Bridgestones your Z came with when new.

Too bad I can't say the same about the G37 Coupe, the 370Z will dust it. The G37 is a bloated pig that I eagerly awaited the concept to production model, only to find it weighs way too much, has even more crap on it that I don't want, and costs ~$3-5k more than my fully loaded '04 with comparable options. The rear seat is shorter by several inches, making it no longer truly useful other than short trips. The back trunk is ugly with a stupid fake plastic chrome tipped spoiler whether you want it or not. I even turned down a generous trade allowance and 0.9% financing - that's when you really know you don't want a car.

Back in '03/'04, both good and very close cars. After that, Infiniti increasingly courted the buyer who could care less about losing the Brembos for brakes that wouldn't last 3 hot laps at your average track, "upgraded" interior and soundproofing that added a lot of useless weight, a motor that lost midrange torque for marginally higher peak hp, culminating in the luxo-coupe tug that is the G37.

If you buy used, make the choice on the one you like better. Neither car is inherently superior in the '03-'05 MY's. If you don't track it or drive it at 10/10ths (anyone here seen 155 mph limited on their speedo lately?) then just buy the one you like better.

"All you need to do"? And pay how much? >$1k installed. For other than competition use, all the G Coupes in 6MT's came with a pretty decent VLSD. If I was going to change either one I'd go with something like the NISMO 1.5 to keep it civil.

At least the Base isn't loaded with crap you don't want and don't need, +1 on that.

go with the G...backseats are a huge plus!

aside from that, i may be in the minority, but i think the G looks way sexier than the Z....as for driving impressions, i've never been in a G, but the Z is pretty fun

stick with G or wait for 370z. Dont buy the 350Z now..i bet you will regret it

or buy 350z when 370z comes out so you might get killllller deal with it.
