So many cancellations
Seems like there are cancelled Z orders all over the country. For those of us who are waiting patiently (maybe November delivery), perhaps the best idea to speed things along would be to jump ship on our original orders after securing a cancelled Z order with the desired trim, color and options.
Are dealers marking the cancelled pre-order cars up from MSRP immediately? Seems as though one could slide in and get a cancelled order at MSRP if the timing is right. Something to think about if you're itching to get behind the wheel...

I know the waiting list at my dealership is a mile long and the drops have already been snatched up. Which, come to think of it, kinda sucks. I mean, I ordered originally, shouldn't I have a chance at grabbing one of the other spots that someone bailed on? I mean, I ordered a base, but if an enthusiast spot opened up that is confirmed to be coming in ahead of me, shouldn't I have a crack at it if I want to pony up the extra dough? Dammit, now I'm all pissed off!! To hell with everyone who's driving in their Zs right now!!
OK, OK, I'm better now. Sorry. I just get so emotional. See I'm better now.

Don't think that all of these available Z's are actual pre-order cancellations. Some dealers ordered Z's in their allotment under employee names just to ensure they didn't lose their allocation and could have some available to sell to the GP for above MSRP.
The drop-out percentage is less than it appears (like basketball player graduation rate from Duke ).

Yeah I agree with Coach. My guess is:
50% cancellations are just dealer fluff spots so they can sell some at mark up.
20% cancellations are people who want the roadster or G35c instead.
Reamaining 30% are actual bail outs for whatever reasons (financial, family, bought an A4, doesnt shift like the s2000, etc).
As far as you moving up - why dont you call your dealer and talk to them about it? Tell them you'd be interested in exhanging your order for a dropout's and letting them sell yours.

We have 3 Nissan dealers here in Omaha. I have only talked with one and they have 2 people back out. The sales man told me they would be here this week, after I called today he said 9-11-02. 1 red touring auto, and 1 silverstone track.
both can be had for $500 deposit.
Im going to look at the track when it gets here, but I really want to see the g35c before I get out of my 4x4 into a sports car.
I wonder if the other 2 dealers are having back outs?

Absolutely. It's widely known that many dealers have ordered "extra" cars to mark them up and put 'em on the floor.
The problem with going about getting your car faster in this manner would be finding the EXACT same car you ordered. Even though there aren't many options for the Z, finding that match crossreferenced with a cancelled pre-order slot in your local area wouldn't be the easiest search.
Also, it's important to me to have the exact car that I personally ordered to spec, ya know? Kinda cool knowing that Nissan built this car for me. Rather than swooping in on an order that someone else put together... I personally don't mind the wait to save a bit more ca$h anyway.
Just thought it would be an interesting idea to search for a car to get into quicker...

I'm starting to think that of the 7800 or so 'pre-orders', not many actually were for customers such as us.
I think there were only (hold on...checking soup.....) 279 cars sold to customers. All the rest were dealers buying under assumed names.
