Weight reduction. A list of components I just weighed.
Just a qauick list I did outside right now with a bathroom scale.
Spare Tire: 35lbs
Spart Tire Cover: 1lb
Tools: 6lbs
Cargo Mat (upgraded one): 5lbs
Total: 47lbs
That is an easily removable 47lbs for track days. If you are really serious about handling you will remove all of these components and relocate the battery to the rear of the car. Add a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and the car should just about be perfect.
When I reach my first tire change I will go with S03 PP's. Stock size in the rear, but 235's up front to help counter understeer. I have not really pushed the car hard enough to feel how it handles at the limit, but most new cars I have driven, including my mind engined MR2 Spyder, understeered when stock. This is done for product liability reasons and I am sure the Z will be no different.
So far my only complaint after 300 miles is still the rear view mirror. Basically it's useless. Would that stop me from buying the car? HELL NO!! I haven't decided what I am gonna do with it yet. Basically all you see is the roof out the back and the road 20-30 ft behind the car. I'll figure something out and let you guys know.

Is the rear view mirror a problem because you're tall or do you think it will be a problem with everyone? I know there's just a small slit out the back, but from your description is sounds like you can't even angle the mirror to look straight through the slit.

Jeff

Regarding the rear-view mirror, I could see a good distance behind the car with it and I'm 5'11". However, the way I had it adjusted I felt I was right at the limit -- it was like looking through a very narrow slit behind.
I'd guess the mirror is going to be useless for anyone over 6'.

Is there room for you to where a "motorcyle" helmet and still have it not hit the roof?
(Before the flames start... The reason for this question is that a helmet is required for all cars that do the 1/4 mile in 12.99 or less. I know that the stock Z is not there yet, but... pretty much all the cars I own eventually get to that level of performance or better. I'm sure that this 350Z will be no exception.)
Hey Raceboy, why not go 245-40-18 in the front(same dia.) and 255-40-18 in the rear(bit smaller dia.) these both go right on stock width and you get one size wider in the back but still get 2 sizes wider in the front so you still get a bit more tire in front to help with understeer. the 255-40s are also a bit shorter than the 245-45s to give a bit better gearing. if you want stock dia. in the rear the 255-45s are only .1" taller (all info from tirerack.com)

Angling the mirror, pointing it to the back window area, is perfect. I get a full view of the back window.
For me, it is perfect,

Todd
