Default New 2008 350 Z (please answer!)

just got a new 2008 350z about two months ago. i got it in the charcoal/dark silver/platinum/whatever you wanna call it color (pics coming soon). i would like to make a few interior/exterior/performance mods.

Interior: Does anybody have any gauages that look good? I am wonderig how easily (and how good it looks) if you were to change the stock gauages including the three gauages on the dash? dont want my car looking cheesy.
Also, does anybody have any ideas for how to make the center compartment (where the nav would be) look better. i may have seen a silver "z" emblem that was kinda big and thought it may look good there as long as it didnt ruin the plastic over time.

Eterior: I am not sure if there is any good places that have some good deals on aftermarket tail lights (alteza type). i dont think i want to go with the blackout film stuff. anybody have my car color with some goodlooking tail lights? And anybody have the carbon fiber inserts for the side "z" logos? never seen a picture with it on my car color.

Performance: First step, i am gonna do whatever everybody else does.... intake. I have read a million threads and still dont have a defiitive answer. i see the qouted injen specs but is that really legit? I heard Aem has lower hp specs but are more accurate and probably deliver more hp than injen. I have heard good things about JWT popchargers but i would like to add more low end hp and sound etc. I live in sd where its hot but does rain. not sure how much water it takes for hydrolock and it does get hot! not sure if this would over heat my engine with a short arm or a CAI.

Sorry for the long message! this is two months of thinking in one thread! i would realyyyy appreciate any help or comments! please!

Ha... i know what your saying. i am a perfectionist about everything. I guess these things were my phase 1 plan. i will probably think about all these things for another month before makinga decision. i will probably be asking for some ideas when it comes time for phase 2 probably in the summer.

LOL. There is plenty of stuff in the technical forums to keep you busy. Read. Pick quality mods.

Please don't go for those tail lights. Check your owner's manual. It clearly states use of those lights is a violation of ownership. The good taste police can repossess your Z.

Keep researching the intakes, because you said you're looking for low-end power, and intakes don't add that. Why do you want to change the taillights? The stockers are probably one of the best parts of the exterior.

And now, 8 things you could have done for the last 2 months that would have better occupied your time. You could have:
8. Started learning a foreign language.
7. Started raising guinea pigs.
6. Run to the store every day for 60 days for radishes and paint thinner.
5. Study for the SAT.
4. Started a meaningful long distance relationship based on internet gaming and webcams.
3. Saved 15% or more on your car insurance.
2. Learn to cook guinea pigs (a delicacy in many parts of South America).

1. Or, cruised this forum for pictures and technical information that would have answered your questions and hopefully given you a creative and tasteful goals for your new sports car.

thanks for the perspective on the tail lights. are the 08 lights different from all the prevoius years? and it was my understanding that CAI helped more on low end, and something like the popcharger would be more high end. i would like to see some more power from 2-5 rpm and some more bass in the engine in that area as well. not sure how worried i should be about hydrolock or if most rainfall could do the trick. im interested in the injen cai. just dont wanna spend 500 bucks on a part that does nothing for performance and would be a legit concern for overheating or enine issues. sorry... these would be the first mods i have EVER made on a car

There really isn't a better intake other than the stock ones. some people just buy the K&N filters which are like $60-$100. Of coarse there have been several people who went with the Injen CAI and found decent gains, which is why i am leaning more towards the injen CAI. If you read A.H.'s threads you will find your answer. https://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/3738...soundclip.html

+1 (so that would be two of us running 4 Turbonators). Word on the street is that they are researching a Direct Injection Turbonator that causes mini cyclones in your fuel injectors, which makes the fuel blow up eben better in the chambers.

Yea for real!! www.turbonator.com The old DE engines didnt respond to the turbonators boost levels as well as the HR does. I would def upgrade to a true-dual exhaust with twin Turbonators in both pipes and then run twin turbonators in both intake pipes. You can also run two more turbonators furter back in the exhaust system wired up to a full throttle switch under the pedal for a turbo boost.

is this something that would void your warranty or somehow hurts your car in other way? and you gotta expect that somebody who just bought a relatively expensive brand new car for the first time would be a tad hesitant on buying a bunch of parts to hook on to my car who claim to add a rediclous amont of hp and gas mielage for like 30 bucks. that kind of stuff is usually kind of sketch. am i off?

No. People always are hesitant to accept new inventions.

The fact is, the intakes from Nissan, stock, are very good. But a Turbonator works extremely well with those intakes to increase airflow velocity. The faster the air gets into your engine, the more power you're going to make.

Kinda like a turbo. It speeds the air into your engine. Now, no, you won't make turbo-like power, but I think most my350zers are seeing 20% gains in both hp and tq, and I think one guy in Jersey is getting a consistent 42 mpg (I'm skeptical of that one, though, lol).

Welcome to the Z community.
