i admit that i could'v done so many tings to avoid it, like drive slower, it wasnt raining at the time and i "think" i did what i wouldv done any other time, i put my blinker on turned to the middle lane and i lost traction, almost hitting the car that i wanted to pass, i didnt givit more gas, i tried to let the car stop sliding so i steered to the right, now i know that i this was to happen again i would do things differently. and to all those ppl who are running their mouths, i get what ur saying.. i kno it may be hard or stupid for something like that to happen, it happened to me and thats that. i didnt start this thread for ur comments, but to inform those who will be driving in these conditions to be careful. anyways. i have a base model, i took soo much care of it till that day. i wouldnt speed, i wouldnt go crazy because i knew that it wasnt a toy. damn i miss it. but... i guess im chaning my name to Versain'L.A. lol that was a good1 made me laugh. and eventually i will come back to the Z family, hopefully soon, but im not in a rush, maybe the 580z? never know...
i'm 19, i'v been driving for 2 years, my job during the summer is driving places meeting by dads costomers for 7 hours everyday monday thru friday, so if sum1 is going to say "hes 19, he was speeding or he doesnt know how to drive" then all i can say ur wrong, and may god bless u on the road, cuz i wouldnt want what happened to me 2day to any of u guys... what i did today i have done a hundered times, many times in the rain, but somethin about that road, i took pictures of the road cuz the fire fighters noticed the roads were really oily, more then usual. but... thats that. jst a little bruises and i know ima be real sore 2morrow.. jus gotta thank god he put that tree there to stop me from running into a house.
I've got 30 years more driving experience than you, almost all of it in the PNW. Because of this, my first reaction to your post is similar to some of the other old guys, "you've got to be kidding". However, since you are only 19 and haven't learned these lesson's well yet, I can understand your surprise as you ended up in the tree. I did something similar on a wet road with bald tires when I was 16. I also clipped a sign on an icy road at 16. If you had asked me then, I would have sworn I was a great driver with lots of driving experience. However, I made mistakes and those two mistake bit me in the behind. Hopefully, other kids may read your post and be a little extra cautious so they can avoid the learning by experience that you, and I, did.
FWIW, if and when you get the Z back together, find a local club and start to autocross it. You will learn more about how the car handles and how to drive, and recover, on the edge. Some of the best experiences I've had driving was autocrossing last year in the rain. Even after 35 years of driving I still learned some things.
I think everyone should be required to drive in Florida for six months before being given a license. If you survive I-95 in a downpour then you can drive anywhere.

PS, I am never wrong.
I have to admit, I got 2 sentences in, and I could hear the Jaws theme tune...
I think the issue here is that a lot of youngsters who have no experience of powerful rear wheel drive cars, get the cheapest models that have no TCS or other safety devices.
I think Nissan should start putting them on the cheapest ones, and making the more expensive models have them as optional - because clearly no one learns.
It's also why I started in a Ford Escort, and didn't own anything close to the z's power until I was in my late 20's because as my dad so wisely said when I complained that "Why can't I own a car like that?"
Answer: "Because you a dick, and you'll crash it".
Wiser words never spoken.....

I've made that drive from JAX to Daytona many times, it's usually not pleasant. The worst I've seen was this year after the Miami - FSU game when it rained 5" in under 3 hours in Broward county, driving from Miami Gardens back to Fort Lauderdale was horrible. A small boat would've been better than a car.
today i was going to school (college)and i was on the left lane on the street in a 40 mph zone, but this car was in front of me going like 28, so i decided to pass him, not fast but i accelerated, wen i put the streering wheel straight i started to lose control and started angling to the left, and i avoided hittin a car so i tried to put the steering wheel straight and i ended up angling even more to the right .i went up a curb and hit a tree, the car is totaled from my opinion, and my friend and dads... im not making this thread so ppl can be like "wow sucks" "glad ur ok" but i want every1 to be EXTRA CAREFUL the roads are wet, which makes it sippery with the street oil, which is the reason why i lost traction, but when u get behind a wheel, make sure that you plan on making it home safley or where ever your going. i am ok, the car is not, the car isnt here but i am... i am blessed, i hope this message makes at least 1 person think twice of accelerating after a turn or switching lanes... anything can happen to any1, make sure you are careful with ur decisions. just drive safe. god bless you guys.
I don't understand, when it rains you don't have to drive slow just because its raining. people panic too easy about rain. I live on The east coast of canada and trust me we get alot of rain and fog. Alot of people have prob never seen fog. We had a summer with only 10 days of sun. you only have to slow down if you have bald tires, or get it ruts.
I drove in the same rain for over 2 hours doing questionable manuvers to not bee too late for my new job, no issues. This is because I was cautious and understand the danger of the first rainy day in months in LA. Also I am aware of the danger of loosing control and sliding backwards in a Z pointed face to face with a VAN (Don't ask, Z is in one piece, needed new driver seat and pants). I'm affraid driving for a few years doesn't mean you will be prepared for everything. Especially with a rear wheel powerful car, you can only learn from experience. Now you know....And knowing is half the battle....

If people all over the country can do it in the snow and slush then surely you can learn how to in the rain. Best of luck.

Well glad your safe. Best thing you can do, in the future, is to take a car control clinic where they put you in the same scenario and teach you how to recover.

This thread makes me laugh
I'm not going to say "I'm glad you're okay" because personally, I don't care. Most of the guys are right, it was your fault, you don't know how to drive in slippery conditions. Learn from it, get over it and be happy you didn't kill somebody when you gave it too much gas.
