Default Clutch is too hard? Does it go soft after a while?

K I ask my dealer to get me a Blue 6mt enthusiast , I did test drive a 6mt touring and the clutch stroke is very long and hard to press down. I am wondering if it will soften up after a while since I have to drive thru the bumper to bumper traffic of Chicago once a while. Thx.

I think the clutch is easy. You should try a week in a Corvette or a Viper.

The clutch in my car is pretty stiff too, not as bad as it was though when I first got it.

I have the same sort of situation with my 6MT as well. I thought that maybe I just wasn't used to it... but upon comparing it to zwindsor's car, my clutch feels totally different. I had the dealer adjust the engagement a little bit, but mine still has more of a "hard spring" feeling ... while the other Z I checked out was more linear all the way to the floor.

I don't know if there is some adjustment I can make, or if all transmissions are NOT created equal... but I guess its just something I'll have to get used to.

Yes, it is a little “hard” . After about a week I didn’t notice any more.

You’ll get use to it.

i don't think the clutch is too heavy. I drove my friend's e46 M3 and it is about the same. Matter of fact, i think the clutch on my Z is smoother then the M3.

I agree that the clutch got harder after the trans replacement. I actually had the pleasure of dring Daytona's(chris) car this past week and his clutch seems to drop to the floor effortlessly, and mine feels like a mustang....

Sounds odd, the clutch in my track goes down w/out any effort. It does however try and bite your foot off when you let it up. Very snappy, but depressing it is effortless. Maybe by 2006 all the Z cars will be the same off the showroom. lol

Our clutches are stiff/hard but nothing compared to Porsche GT2. That thing gave me a leg workout.

No problem with the clutch effort here. It did take some getting used to the 1st and 2nd gear clutch action in normal driving as it tends to bite quickly and needs a little slower release for a smooth shift.

Its troubling to me to hear that just about everyone has a different clutch feel/engagement to their Z.

If I were to make mine different, I would loosen it up a little bit, so that it didn't spring back with such force, and I would make my engamenent closer to the floor, so I didn't have to lift the pedal so high before it bit.

This is my first MT car, but I drove a friend's 5MT miata with 40k miles on it. Man, that thing was a dream to drive... shifting wise. Everytime I would release the clutch, I was expecting the little "thump" but it never came. Zero notchiness in the shifter and such a shallow clutch. I didn't understand what was going on. At times I thought that when I relelased the clutch, I was still in neutral because i didn't feel a thing. Zero change in G force. Just smooth acceleration all the way through. I hope that happens to my car soon. I got stuck in that big accident on the PA turnpike on Friday Night. 5 hours to move 5 miles. That was god awful. I was tempted to just shut the car off and push it forward flinstone style.

coming from a manual integra (my previous car), the clutch on the Z feels absolutely effortless. like buttah.

No issues with the cluth for me.. its much more forgiving the my WRX is, and easier to depress then the Talon Tsi that I had a few years back. My wife hated driving that car because she disliked the clutch...

Think of it this way.....
If your clutch is hard, your leg builds muscle.
If your clutch is soft, its easier to drive.

Its a win-win situation

no kidding...

Just drove my brother's brand spanking new Acura TSX over the weekend, compared to my Z, that didn't feel like a clutch at all. More like flooring the gas pedal. The car was soo light, it felt like I had no control (much like a manual Honda Accord).
