I CHANGED MY OIL AT AROUND 1900 MILES, AND THEN AT 2000 I FIRST REDLINED. I WAS GOING TO WAIT UNTIL 3000 MILES BUT DECIDED THAT 2000 WAS LONG ENOUGH TO BREAK A CAR IN. I HAVE ALSO HEARD FROM OTHERS THAT TO BREAK A CAR IN PROPERLY YOU'D HAVE TO WAIT SOMETHING LIKE 8000 MILES, BUT COME ON, WHO UNDER 90 YEARS OLD COULD DO THAT?

 

MAKE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR OIL BEFORE YOU PUSH THE ENGINE PAST 4,000 RPMS. YOU WANT TO GET ALL THE LOOSE METALLIC DEBRIS AND ETC. OUT OF YOUR ENGINE BEFORE YOU RUN IT HARD. I READ SOMEWHERE ON THIS BOARD FROM A FEW PEOPLE THAT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE YOUR OIL AT 500 MILES, 1200, AND THEN AT 3000.

Break in is over at 1200 miles, and after that it's nothing but fun.

Ok.. I'm sure that the laughter will commence momentarily, but I find it hard to redline my new Z! Not that it's physically hard to do... just that when it gets past 4000 it sounds like the engine is going to eat itself! It is SCREAMING!!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining AT ALL... just that compared to what I have driven for the past several years (Ford F-150) it is quite a scary sound. But scary in a good way. I'm sure that Nissan designs the engines you can push the hell out of 'em, but I'm still a bit gunshy.
I'm only at about 1800 miles and I kept the revs under 3000 for the first 1000!!! Only recently have I even gone above 4000, but never has it gone past 4500 mainly because It sounds (and feels) like the engine is going to blow up or something.

you wait till 1200, good god not 3000, DEFINITLY not 8000.

as a matter of fact Id start heading north of 4000 at 8 or 900. dont idle the engine for 1200 miles then think the magic switch flipped lets hit 6600, its a curve, break it in as such.

as for oil, wouldnt personally change it at 500miles, Id change at 2000 if you want, I went at 3000.
