This LA does not look as sharp as Chrome Silver. It is too light and lacks the metallic properties of both CS and SS. I feel like the extra $1100 is more due to it being a rare color(unavailable on other models), than the quality of the paint. For me (and I believe many others) they should have kept the Brickyard, and just added a yellow and/or dark metallic green. I own a Chrome Silver Performance model and am truly sick of the hype generated by this particular color to the lineup. I hope they sell pitifully and nissan ends up doing away with this color and ends up bringing back brickyard(or a new yellow, or dark metallic green). Variety is the spice of life (let's keep things different nissan).

Why is that color an $1100 option?

The new water based paints the auto makers are using are more expensive(especialy pearl!) and a much more difficult process to apply correctly. BMW charges an extr $600 just for black!

I don't know, I don't think I'd shell out $1100 more for the LA, I love my brickyard, what happened to it? It's a shame they kicked it to the curb for the convertibles, are they going to keep the BY for the coupes???

Brick is retired. For an extra $1100 that thing better not have a LICK of orange peel!!! Not as impressive as I would have hoped. I thought it would look like the show car paint.

Another color Nissan should consider is a darker "Royal" blue IMO.

Here's what I thought you'd get for your $1100:

Kinda off topic, but what counts as a 'layer/coat' of Zaino? Is it just the Z-2, Z-5?

According to Zaino, the Z-2 and Z-5 are interchangable. I just spent all day on my fiance's car and all I can say is WOW.

Yes, or maybe Z3. Z6 doesn't count.

Hobs is correct. Turn to page 859 of your Zaino manual and under section 12, paragraph 4, subsection ii, line 2 it CLEARLY states:

"....when considering one's actual layer count one must consider Z-2 and Z-5 and ONLY Z-2 and Z-5, unless one has a car that predates the clear coat era, in which case one MAY consider Z-3 when quoting one's "layer count" such as in a signature line on a message board or for "bragging rights" in a Zaino related thread..."

it goes on to state:

"... if a Zaino user attempts to quote ANY other layer, such as layers of Z-1 or Z-6, in his official layer count, he will be considered in direct violation of this law and will be immediately banished from the Brethern of Zainoites."

and finally:

..."if a Zaino user is callous enough to consider his Z-18 claybar, his Z-16 tire dressing or his Z-10 "leather in a bottle" as an official layer, he will be immediately and permanantly banned from any and all message boards"

Thus speaketh St. Sal of New Jersey.

LOL - you are too much, Bonz. BTW: it's Brian. I chose bhobson333 years ago, it's my AIM id, etc. Kinda clumsy, but I just haven't been inspired to change it.

Dang, that is sort of a let down. But maybe we just need to see it from more angles and in different lighting conditions.

Next year, the optional color will be "Glow-in-the-Dark" Green and be only a $1999 option. I can't wait!

Default Thanks, jkoyasak...

Wow, seems Nissan is going backwards in 2004!

First, they discontinue the Brick’, I color I loved. Even though I have a Silverstone, Brickyard was my second choice, and now I wished I’d gotten a Brick’ instead.

Then, this seemingly crappy “Liquid Aluminum“ color. I reserve my finally judgment until I see it in person. But these first photos definitely are disappointing, especially for the extra cost. (BTW, thanks again jkoyasak, excellent job on the photos and posting!)

Also, the “downgrading” the tire/wheel option on the touring Auto and Convert to 17”. What’s up with that?

Well, just makes me feel better about buying my Z late 2003 and not waiting the extra couple months for the ‘04s. What's to wait for?

Peace

In 03, the Touring Auto came with 17's too
