Why'd you choose the 350Z over the G35 coupe?

The G interior is hidious, more so than the Z's all plastic setup lol. Japanese cars... sigh such a dissappointment compared to German.. Ohh well.
I wanted a two seater on purpose, smaller lighter. Fits my wife and I plus two golf bags, never miss a Tee time ever with it. Then again we have an S4 as well which is just as fast hmm...
Anyway, I do like the G35 but wanted a 2 seater so that was it.

Drop top of course
Also, I drove a 3000gt, well two of them for years and I was tired of owning a car with two worthless back seats. So why would I buy another car with two worthless backseats?

I think the G's interior is really nice. I dont know why everyone is bashing it. I would go as far as to say its actually better and more asteticly pleasing than BMW by miles.
Basicly it comes down to your choice.
Luxury and comfort while sacraficing a little performance = G
Sportier car with better handling while sacraficing comfort = Z
I almost bought a G but I fell in love with the styling and performance of the Z, plus I planned on Auto Xing my car when I bought it.
I think the G is a much much much more comfortable car to ride in.
I recommend that you just go test drive both and see what you like better. Unless you are really pushing the cars on the limit the G will fare just as well as the Z in everyday driving. I like both cars. You can't go wrong with either of them.

all you need to do is ask yourself one question: [i]"Do I need a back seat?"[/b]
I drove both the G and the Z. But I also own a Camry, and an extended cab Frontier. So the decision was very easy for me...I didn't need another car with a back seat.

Before i got my Z i was 100% sure the G35 coupe was what i wanted (black on black 03 6mt with brembos). But after testdriving the car for literally the whole day, i found myself looking for ways to like it? The car feels really heavy, steering response isn't great, interior isn't that much better and is cramped compared to the Z imo, and it just doesn't feel anything like a sportscar. I then saw a Z locally and decided to testdrive it. Well, it felt like a totally different car imo. DOnt know why everyone keeps saying theyre the same car?

Honestly the Z is just as if not more comfortable to drive to me. Its better looking, faster, handles better, Dont have to haul people around, etc. could go on longer.
I like the looks of the Z better and i wanted a sports car. If i wanted a "luxury" coupe i would have gone audi or Bimmer

I'll have to admit that initially at first, I wanted to get the G. Its beautiful taillights were luring me in.
BUT then I started to think, why pay more for a slower car? After all, the G was made to have the Z's image but in a less raw and a less aggressive package for people who were more conservative. The Z is the thoroughbred and the G is its little brother (with all due respect to the G). And imo, the Z's sleeker lines, sexier details, two-seater exclusivity, lower price, more power, and the history of the Z-car just further sealed the deal. And oh ya, it was a done deal after the test drive. I never thought about the G again.

I bought the Z because it was cheaper then the G35 coupe and sportier. I have a sedan and a jeep so 4 seats didn't matter to me. I also am a old Z-car fan from years back.
To me the G35 has a better looking interior its slicker and more upscale almost what you have in your IS300.
I believe the designers of the Z's dash was going for the hardcore Sporst car look but lots better then in Lotus Elise. Really the hard plastic around the stero and heater control is my only compalint the rest of the interior is sexy and sporty especially the dash. The seats are near racing seats and the shifters alreay knobbed as if customized. The G35 coupe is a slick coupe and if I didn't have a Q45 sedan that has never given me any problems I'd consider it, maybe not because I'm a Z-car man.
Of course the 370Z doesn't have the interior problem and the 06's and above are a little better then the previous 350Zs interiors.

That's true to a degree since my coilovers DO say "G35" on them.
Power, drivetrain and suspension wise they pretty much share the same parts. At the time I was looking, it just seemed like people were doing more R&D for the Z platform. This was a small factor for me though.
Ultimately, It came down to what I wanted to do with the car.
To get a G35c lighter and stiffer or at least to get it to feel the way I wanted it to would be kind of a waste for a psuedo luxury car. Some of you guys do it anyway, which is great.
It may not be a purist car, but alot of us our purist at heart. I just like to keep a fun car simple.

Thank you guys for your insight
I knew you Z and G owners get along mostly well so there wasnt any bashing and both platforms are similar in that regard since its the same family
yeah the Z is a couple grand cheaper than a G but the prices are getting really close since the 370Z and G37 are out--people don't know how to price the older generations well
I guess the G35 is a sweet spot of sport and comfort and the Z is straight up, no latte sipping, no ******** sports car :O
both cars have the exact same exhaust note right? i recall someone saying the Z's exhaust is more pronounced than the G but I can't find that thread/post atm
man if I had the money I'd buy both
