Default Returning my leased 350z after mods...

I love this car, but its just too small for me so I'm going with a 2005 BMW 745i. My current car is a 2005 350z roadster. Anyways, I lowered it with eibach springs, installed an aem CAI, put in a screen with an aftermarket head unit, threw on some volks and now its time to give it in. I already took out the head unit and screen and replaced it with the stock head unit, however, I took off the cubby door from the cubby and just pushed the door into the dash, like it is on 03 cubbys, but what should I do now? Do you think Nissan will notice that I took off the cubby door? right now it looks identical to an open 03 cubby, but once you try to close the cubby you see that it isn't attached. What do you guys think I should do? Also, any tips on taking off the aem cai and installing the stock intake? anything I should keep in mind? I obviously put the stock wheels back on and will put my stock springs back on.

I think I deserve getting away with something like that when i'm giving back my car with only 37000kms on it while I was allowed to do up to 96000kms under my lease terms. Big deal if the cubby isn't working properly lol it's probably gonna be up for auction or something anyways.

they will test everything out on the car and anything that is broken or missing they will charge you for the part + labor. Better to buy the new cubby and install it yourself. save $100.00 in labor.

this is why you never mod a leased car unless you plan to keep it, or correctly get it back to stock very quickly.

Why not be straight-up and tell Nissan that you broke the cubby door. What are they going to fine you? $10? $20?

I'll tell you, though, a lot gets by those guys. They will probably catch the little stuff like a cubby door. I have seen returned lease vehicles that had the wrong headlights and tail lights, incorrect wheels, incorrect seats, missing fender liners......you name it. Be honest - you'll feel better. Enjoy the bimmer!

Lots of people do the lease thing, do mods that can be removed down the road and give the car back. Its not really that uncommon. I always buy my cars and never buy new (regardless if I can afford it or not) but that's just how I do it. Some guys like the low monthly payment and warranty of a leased new car. Plus no having to sell it down the road. So why not whats the diff?

OP just buy the center console and put it back to stock, then you don't have to worry. You can show it to the dealer and disclose it right up front and say but look at the low miles. They may let it go you know.

They auction most of these cars off anyway, so as long as its not heavily modded then you should be ok. My friend put a CAI, custom stereo and exhaust and they took it back with no problems. They are lightly modding these cars in the showroom to grab your eye, even tho factory modded its not a big a deal as most people think. But if you have a sheity dealer that wants to be difficult then you have to deal with that.

Call some other dealers and get their thoughts. I dont think a broken cubby is going to be a big deal. JMO

I would attempt to return it as-is. Unless it is different than my brothers lease, they will tell you of any deficiencies and allow you an opportunity to fix it yourself later. IOW, if it's a problem, THEN you buy a new cubby and fix it.

Ya, I think I'll try to give it in with the current cubby and if they say something, I'll replace it myself.

I buy used as well. Lease vehicles are modded a lot. I won't even look at a returned lease car any more - most come back in awful condition (present company excepted, of course).

you're a geek. I found out that '05 cubbys don't fit in an '06 so we can't do the switch...still got the screen if you want it though. I can probably fit it into your cubby myself.

I have a leased Z. I'm not really planning on modding it except maybe tinting the windows. If I mod it, I'm taking it with me!

For the same reason some people slam, chop and blow the cars they own, even though it actually LOWERS the resale value, voids the warranty, and often negatively affects ride quality, reliability, etc... because they want to.

To each their own, eh?

Now, ME, I think z_roadster should take off all the aftermarket mods, like the suspension, replace them with stock, and sell me the "used" parts at a serious discount... 8)
