AWD G35...anyone smell USDM Skyline?
I just read today that Infinity is launching an AWD version of the G35 Sedan for 2004 in December. Its configured for 100% rear torque-split, but then changes to 50/50 in slippery conditions. Nissan says that it maintains all RWD handling characteristics on dry pavement...sounds awfully close to a Skyline AWD, eh?
Some time back, SCC magazine stated that the 350Z front steering spindles seemed to have enough room to accept a front drive-shaft. Hmmm, the close cousin to the Z gets an AWD system similar to the Skyline...the Z appears to be set up for an AWD configuration...maybe a Z with Skyline drivetrain???
Yeah, I'll trade in my Z for a 450HP, AWD, Z-version, USDM Skyline! Those Subaru STIs can eat my dust!

SkylineZ? Sounds bad ***.. but I'm skeptical. Whats the deal with the AWD G35? If thats in the works, you'd figure they'd do the same for the Z.. Sounds like a farse to me w/out any other info/sources to back it up.

Don't count on me as back up info but i also read/heard of the new awd g35 too. I though it was the coupe though not the sedan?? Anyways my question is would we be seeing a skyline like price along with an AWD 350z...or possibly AWD twin-turbo 350z? If the success of the Z continues i wouldn't be surprised to see this combo or atleast TT Z sometime in the near future.

I doubt we would ever see a productin AWD Z. Tradition will probably keep it RWD. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see a turbo version in years to come. With the success of the STi and EVO I could see Nissan producing a Skyline GTR under the Infinity G35 name. Anyone else?

according to this clip and another one that i cannot locate again, it seems to be only the sedan... for now anyways.
"Beginning in early December, the 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan equipped with leather upholstery will be available with all-wheel-drive, announced Nissan. The G35 AWD features Nissan's all-wheel drive system with an active torque distribution management system with an electro-magnetic clutch (no centre differential). Torque distribution front-to-rear is computer controlled and is variable between 0:100 and 50:50 front:rear. Nissan says the advantage of this system is smooth starts and better traction and maneuverability on snowy roads and minimal compromise of rear-wheel drive performance characteristics on dry roads.
The AWD system also includes "Snow-Mode" switch which fixes the torque distribution ratio at 50:50 to improve performance on slippery roads."
oh, found another one...

A local infinity dealer told me back in may that they heard rumors that the US would be reciving a us version of the skyline in 05, so this is prob the beggining of that. As for the 350z after the millions spent in R&D i can't see them making such a drastic change to a car till at least 06 at best, don't forget most cars go a good 5 years before a new generation comes out 03 +5 yeers would put it around 07.
I also think i remember reading last time i was in an Inifity dealership (2 weeks ago) something about late avability on AWD g35s, so I guess this is the same thing

The G35 IS the US version of the Skyline.
The Z has room for AWD. Magazines found that interesting when the first Zs were given to them for testing a year ago. They remarked on how much room there was on the front end and surmised that an AWD system might be used on cars with shared components. The JDM Skyline sedan already comes with an AWD option.

What ragtopz quoted is correct. See:

Too bad it's only on the ugly (IMHO) sedan... if it were on the coupe...
