I say get a manual Z first and learn later!!

Thats what I did and man did I learn quickly, didn't want to hurt my new Daytona Z. It took about an hour to learn around a local (empty) track and my dad made it through safe and sound (although he just couldn't wait to show me how to drive the Z "properly").

Also there is a Ferrari racing game at my local Dave and Busters (not sure of the actual name of the game) it has an enclosed 3 screen display cockpit. And it actually has a full manual mode with a responsive clutch....not as good as the real thing but it kinda gets you used to having the extra pedal and shifter.....but hey, there is no way the Ferrari compares to the Z

Learn on a junker before you get a Z...

I just taught my daughter to drive this summer on my '92 Civic Si...
I had to replace the clutch last week, put me back $645. But at least she can drive manual now

I learned on an '82 Dodge Colt. I never would have believed that a dashboard could have moved in and out in units of feet!

The Z has one of the easiest shifting clutches I've ever driven, but I'd recommend learning on a beater. Respect your Z!

Back in the early 90's, Enterprise Rentals used to rent out Miatas. So, I bellied up the 60 or so dollars to rent one and learned how to drive a manual transmission on that car. Thrashed the hell out of the car but I made sure to get the full warranty package from them. If you wanna learn how to drive stick, find a rental company that rents out manual transmission cars and take out their full rental insurance policy so they dont involve your own insurance company.

I learned on my Mom's '79 Chevette. Or as I "affectionately" called it at the time, "Shove-it".

if by easy shifting you mean the engagement point is about a mm long, then yes. heh

I "learned" on a jeep and a civic, I mean I could barely operate, but I could drive it, stalled more than I got going, and rode the clutch Im sure.

then I got a bmw 318. that was good. clutch like a wet sponge. taught me well enough.

First day I got my Z, I had no clue how to drive stick. First day, my friend let me practice on his civic for an hour or so. After that, I learned on my Z.
