roadkill
I'm from the land down under, have had my 350Z for approx. 4 months and in that time have managed to accidentally kill 5 different birds...a ***** wag-tail (small black and white bird similar to a wren) found it had gone through the grille when I went to install the stillen grille (to prevent rocks - not birds! from hitting the radiator), two galahs (pink and gray coloured parrots similar to a cockatoo), a rosella (smaller colourful parrot) and a duck! I have never had a car hit so many birds despite driving at a similar speed as with previous cars I've owned. Has anyone else noticed this propensity for the Z to decimate avian life? Maybe it's something to do with the colour of the car (chrome silver it's called in the US), the lack of wind noise when driving, or a peculiarity of dumb Aussie birds?
Think yourself lucky. I recently saw on another forum a bird that had been hit by a Viper at such speed it had been forced through the windscreen seal
Basically turned to pulp inside the car. Imagine having to clean that up.
Personally I've never hit a bird yet. Nearest I've come is a full size turkey. Came around a blind bend at about 110kph in my MX-5 Miata to find it standing in the middle of the road. I was able to swerve and miss it. Stupid bird didn't even flinch.

Now that you brought it up, I think I hit a bird a couple months ago. I say that "I think" because it was early in the morning and kinda dark and then I saw this object glide towards the car and hit the windhsield and it flew up in the air.
This may be a silly reason, but could it be because the car is soooo aerodynamic that nothing pushes the birds away as they approach?

With no scientific basis, I also think it has to do with the aerodynamic styling of the car.
This also explains why we hit rocks (and get rock chips) like mad - the car just doesn't push it or the wind out of the way, but instead takes the beating!

Fortunately no birds yet, but the car that the Z replaced, a 98 Passat had the honor of having a pheasent fly into the right front fender about 2 inches above the wheelwell. Happened at about 8:30 at night when it was pretty dark. Scared the crap out of me and my passenger, and left a nice little beak-ding in the fender.
