Default Am I getting ripped off?

If all goes well, I should be an owner of a 2006 350z tomorrow. It's got 43k miles - $17,500. Apparently the dealer just got it from an auction. Z has some custom work done, ie. wider wheels, custom exhaust, etc.

Anything you pay over average trade just buries you that much deeper into the car. If the dealer bought it at the auction, you can be they are into it for less than trade in 95% of the time. Average trade in for that car is $14,075, hence $17,500 is too much. I would offer $15,500, if they don't take it then you should walk. They are plenty of other nice Z's available for that much to bury yourself into one thats over priced. Only time I could see doing such a thing is if this is the exact car in the exact color with all the exact options you have been searching for and its worth it to you on a personal level to take the hit. I've bought a lot of vehicles in my life and thats my two cents from my own personal experiences.

Thanks for the advice guys. What's the best way to find a used 350z? The auto trader listings seem outdated.

If your area is anything like mine, Craigslist has quite a few very reasonably priced Z's listed on it and it changes daily.

don't let the dealer snow you... mods are worth absolutely ZERO dollars to them when you trade it in...and they will be the first to tell you this... they may even go as far as to tell you that they DEVALUE the vehicle and offer you less for trade. (i've actually had this done to me)

stay away from any dealer (used or new) who tells you that mods mean you should pay more than fair market value for what that mileage and trim should bring..

this is why i hate stealerships...they talk out of both sides of their asses quite regularly.

to answer your original question, yes, that price is a rip-off.

I did a quick search in your area, I would definitely try to knock it down another 2K like someone else said.

Yahoo Autos Search

+1 on the dealers don't give you credit on mods if you trade it in. So you should tell them you're not going to give them credit for the aftermarket wheels.

Should I even bother seeing if they'll drop another 2k? They seemed pretty firm about the the 17.5k
