What's wrong with " First to second Shift"??? anyone?

long story short I hope
The Z is not a drag car, second gear feels difrent becuase it has two synchros. if it bothers you that much; just begin in second (unless your going up a hill) second gear is low enough on the Z to do this with out harming the clutch, with a little finesse. Ya see the japs are giving us (AMericans) this great car that it sems very few understand. Again its not a drag car, but from second to fith its all gravy. The way I feel, is that first gear is just to get you on the track, around the pit area, getting on to the trailer. Subarau's have one of the smoothest shifting trans in the world, but they break all the time. the Z is a rough shift in some spots but it holds up. Look at some of the these 350z with 500 hp using the stock trans. You can also buy a used one and re-build it, micro polish the brass sychros, set it up for an external cooler and get some Motul trans fluid. Heres a odd peice I learned as well, it seems that everyone I know with a Z that has been lowered signifigantly says it shifts gears better. then you get my me, in my 07 350z with a bad slave that cant hold anything over 350 hp at the wheels, if I want to go over that I have to convert it to the older cantelever style, since my concentric slave set up is flawed. Yet it, after one replaced slave works great, at least at stock horse power.

About two months driving this one now, and I can definitely agree that 1-2nd is tougher than the rest. Matching RPM's doesn't seem to help much as the second you touch the throttle going into 2nd it tends to jerk a little. Can be avoided by just shifting slow, but then you end up with more comments concerning "headlights in the rearview". People in their automatics tend to just stomp on it thinking that the sports car in front of them is going to take off.
As stated previously just starting out in 2nd is a viable alternative. Just rev a little stronger and be a little slower through the clutch catch point. It will take off just as smooth if not smoother than 1st.

I think the biggest issue is that it is a very close ratio trans with a very low 1st gear. When clutching after 1st gear acceleration, the car slows to much and makes 2nd feel awkward.I don't quite understand a previous posters comment about having 2 syncros in 2nd.Never seen that before but I haven't looked inside one of these trans before. As for micro polishing(???) syncros, good luck with that
