What would you drive if...????
A lot of new models (Crossfire, RX8, etc) out there now, so I am curious to know what Z owners would drive if the 350Z didn't exist. Let's make the assumption you have 50k to drop on a ride. So what is it?
I would say an M3, but it mostly likey would have to be lighty used used M3 if I was to get it for 50k.

I read the SRT forum on their site. What the F? One of those kids threatened to "pop" a cap in an Z owner. Craziness. That car is ugly. It's fast, but ugly. I will take pretty over ugly any day.

If I had 50K cash to drop on a car....I'd get an M5, and pay the other 30K with a loan. I'd love to have an M5. If I was limited to 50K I'd buy an EVO, have a custom made widebody kit along with any other mods I could think of.

When I got the Z I was also looking at the S2000, but didn't like the convertible aspect. If they made an S2000 coupe, that might be a cool car.
Of course, that doesn't exist either, so hmmm.
If the Z didn't exist, I probably would have bought a used C5 vette. Maybe a used Boxster S, but those would probably still be too expensive. I really wanted a two seater, so that narrows down the choices. I probably would have also looked at an EVO8 or STi, even though they have too many doors and seats.
Now that I have the Z, I'm waiting for the C6 vette. IMO, the C5 is one of the best cars around, but was a bit more than I was willing to spend on my first sports car. I imagine the C6 will be even better than the C5, and at that point I should have more experience with sports cars and hopefully $50K will be within my reach.
Maybe in 2010.

Its called class. And performace wise i think an Evo is far off from an M3.
No offense. Just my opinion.
Plus the question was if you had 50k to drop on a car not 30k.

Assuming that G35C was not available and I had to spend no less than 50K I would have gotten Z06 or a used Viper. If I was looking for something in the range of 23-35K I would've been really puzzled because nothing out there really appeals to me. I would've probably settle for a BMW or an AUDI. AAAAAAAA I can't take the pressure.

I would throw in 20k to have Nissan's design group to work on the Z....but has to name after me.
:-)
If 20k is not enuff, I'll build up a fund-raising campaign to have other Z enthusiasts throw in thier 20ks.
muahahaha

Bang for buck doesn't cut it for me
acceleration, handling, reliability, good looks, class, nice interior, and fun to drive.
Those are all important factors to me, and not many cars have the right balance. For under $50k...
Subaru STI/Lancer EVO8 - Monster performance, no class. Racer boy image. Maybe when I was 17-19. Interior thumbs down.
BMW M3 - Great performance, Dull appearance, doesn't have that sports car look. Looks like a modified 330ci. In fact most non-enthusiasts can't tell the difference -- Blends in with other cars on the road.
C5 - Excellent performance + Looks, tho dated styling. Driving it *feels* like its too big like a large sedan. Interiors lacking. Too common.
It's a tough decision, but I know for sure, it definitely wouldn't be a NEON.
