Default Anyone check their oil yet?

First off I checked it after the car has been sitting and got a scare cause it seemed low, but read the manual which said, turn on car, let warm to normal opp. temp and turn off for 10 sec. Oil was fine. Problem is the dip stick it self is just plain funky, all kindas curves and twists, I thought it was busted when I first pulled it out.

It actually wasn't low, it was right where it was supposed to be, in between L & H. But the dipstick itself is screwy, literarly. Imagine a normal dipstick, then grab the end and twist a curl, now do it like 3 more times at various points around the dip stick. Fun! I almost brought the damn car back and was like WTF did you do to my stick>????

I know, I went to check the oil too (just to make sure, ya know) and couldn't believe that wacky dipstick. Doesn't make checking the oil very convenient. Let's hope the engine doesn't burn any so we don't need to worry about it!

If that's the worst thing we have to worry about, we're doing pretty well. And I actually couldn't give a crap about the strange dipstick, I just thought it was interesting.

Well that's done it! The dip stick was the last straw. First it's the Nav door, now the damn dip stick. I've &%$! had it! I'm calling my dealer and canceling my order as I type this.

Ah...never mind. I guess I'll deal.

from my understanding all new cars use oil for some reason as they break in. i presume this is due to unseated pistons and getting some oil getting through. Ive even seen some smoke in brand new cars.

Question for those who have tried - can you actually get an accurate reading if you wait 10 minutes or more? I just took a look right after driving -- it's completely useless! Oil all over the danm thing... Please tell me It works better when you let the car sit for a bit....

Dude.......... First wipe the dip stick off with a cloth, put it back in the engine, pull it out and read the level. There is nothing wrong with the stick. It is built like that to give it added flexibility as the dip stick hole is offset at a weird angle, thus the stick has to bend at a rather extreme angle.

Drive a tight line .

I did wipe the stick as you suggested. It came back out covered in oil amost all the way up... the level is very hard to read. I'll see what happens after sitting for a few hours...

I can't believe people who own a $30,000 car don't know how
to check their oil level. Have you girls owned cars before?
