exactly. I don't know what the gears are like in the G, but personally I think the 5 spd on the auto Z makes the car feel a little faster vs the 6 spd manual. not actually faster, just different feel

but what the OP is talking about is the feeling of it being fast and the acceleration, not whether its actually faster...
i actually like the way it accelerates and how smooth it is at the higher speeds, scratch that, i love it. it never feels like it is going as fast as it is

I'll tell you what though...the linear power curve (oxymoron haha) is COMPLETELY different coming from a protuned STI, naturally (another oxymoron!)

I have a 6 spd Z and quite honestly it feels slow in the lower gears because of the close ratio transmission.i have driven an auto Z and a G and they both FELT faster because of the smoothness and the downshift capabilities of an auto trans. At the end of the road,I suspect the 6 spd will ultimately be a bit quicker but it would have to catch up to the auto first. If that makes any sense.

yeah that is exactly what I was talking about.. thats what I experienced when I test drove both transmissions several times. and I think that is whats going on with the OP with his manual Z and auto G

...

obviously there are plenty of cars faster than a Z, but it is still faster than a large % of cars on the road, its a legit sports car, its cheaper than a corvette, and for a lot of people it looks nicer...

so plenty of reasons.

Sounds like you really might have something wrong with your car then...

the Z is a fast car. Especially if you no how to drive. I keep up with c5 vettes which are lighter and pushing out 50 more horses..

I didn't even realize the performance of the Z when I first bought it...I thought it would be a quick car (like my old RSX-S) but nowhere near the word 'fast'. It surprised me...though I've now made it slower by adding the aftermarket wheels...

going from a 140hp escort to the Z I thought it was fast. I really didnt have any expectations except for it to be faster then the escort

for you guys that keep stating why buy a Z if you want a fast car...my statement above is the reason and most likely a reason that pertains to most members seeing as how most people went from honda or toyota to a Z. As for the cars mentioned that are fast that should be pruchased instead....well uhhh they are $20k to $40k more..that is a f*ckin stupid statement to make with such a price gap.

I came from a 95 Saturn SC2, which had 124HP from the factory. Who knows what it had left by the time I was driving it. It burned oil and threw its serpentine belt off all the time and the battery was a store brand cheapo. If I slammed on the gas, the wheels didn't even chirp.

My wife's car wasn't a lot better. She had a Kia Spectra. It was in MUCH better condition, but probably just as weak.

Then we got a Z and an Accord EX. Now we're much happier. Nicer cars, more power, better handling. And the Z still kicks me in the butt whenever I gas it merging onto the interstate. I'm always amazed at the 0-60 speed.

No. I do these things called test drives. So when I bought it, it was pretty much as fast as I expected it to be.
