Like all new model intrductions the hype is up and so is the price, the hype will go away and so will the demand. This is not a limited production model, Nissan is planning on about 30,000 to the US per year. You will start seeing them discounted in about 6-12 months. Used ones will start going through auction in about 12 months and deals will be available... No one should pay anything over MSRP, it is a really bad investment and the only ones profiting are the dealerships. Most individuals who really enjoy life and retire early, read "The Millionare Next Door" do not buy into hype... Wait a while, even take the extra 3,000-10,000K and buy another toy to hold you over. Then buy smart in 6 months and really enjoy your new Z with a bike or ski in the garage...
RocketScientist turned me on to Dan Ziegler. I only ordered from him in April, in June right before the cut off, and after we had seen the pictures of the different colors, I called to ask if it would be possible to change my silverstone to brickyard. He said he would get on it and he did. That is great in and of itself, but I just checked the inventory for Smithtown Nissan and MY CAR IS SHOWING UP ON THE INVENTORY. Even with the late minute change to the color I am still gonna be one of the firsts... the guy has to have connections. I would change the color in my signature, but I do not know how.
Do not pay over MSRP... call Dan Ziegler.

It was my understanding that the production was to be approx.
30,000 per year. I've never seen any indication it will be higher.
But if they over saturate the market the price could remain at the msrp. But I don't really think they plan to do that. So I'll assume you'll proabably pay more for anything off the lot. And people will pay what ever they ask.
Look at the honda s2000. The car has been on the market for 3 yrs going on it's 4th year. People were paying $40,000 for a car that listed for 32,314. Only recently have the prices gone to msrp plus "documentation" which is around $500 more profit, and that is only because the new 2003s will be out very soon. I'll be the 2003s will go back up another 6,000 over msrp.
If the Z is the success we think it will be they won't ever be discounting them and msrp will be what you would call "giving them away.

You have no idea what you are talking about...
First, the s2000 is selling as we speak for under msrp... They are actually selling slow... How do I know because we have several Honda dealerships... As far as the 350Z, they will be selling $500.00 over within 18 Months, this is a high volume car in a saturated market... 30,000 is alot of sport cars...

If you have several dealers in your area then it might be possible to get a tiny break I would suppose. In MI your lucky to have a import dealer within 50 miles.
If I was to say " As far as the 350Z, they will be selling $500.00 over within 18 Months" and pretend to know the future. Then you could say I have no ideal what I'm talking about.
dealers are told to view this as an enthusiast car, and like all the other enthusiast cars in this price range there will be a huge markup from most dealers, a moderate markup from some and MSRP will be found at few and far between the rest of them. On s2ki we still have people telling stories of how they went 1000miles to buy an s2000 at MSRP and do the drive home for the break-in and it's been 3 years!
