When i was shopping, like a lot of people mentioned......S2000, STi, and the Z. My first choice was STi but due to high insurance cost, I shy away from it. Also, i'm single with no family so what the heck, I can get a sport saloon down the road, but for now i'm enjoying the Z.

When I was on the car hunt I looked at several different cars
Test drove an RX-8, 2 S2000, looked at 2 GTO so ragged out I left w/out driving them, previously had driven MazdaSpeed Miata, and M3 Roadster, and also considered Cooper S, WRX, EVO, Mustang Cobra, and Camaro SS.
I really like my Z and will most likely have it for a long time, but if I wasn't so impatient I would've waited for an '02-4 Z06 or another Camaro SS whichever I found first (impatience again)

All the cars I looked at were used and were all around the same price
s2000 -- kinda small for me and convertible was too much on insurance.
Evo/STI -- only problem was insurance,it was ridiculous what they wanted.
RX8 --just didn't like the looks of it as much as the Z and hated the way the console/radio is laid out.
E46 M3 -- maintenance and insurance would've raped me.
In the end the Z was the best choice and I love it but I would still kill for the M3

for me personally, the Z actually costs less to insure than the rx-8, mustang, WRX or EVO... those are the only ones I looked up the quotes on, but I imagine it's also less than the convertibles.
not sure why its so low, maybe the crash test/safety ratings?

when i was looking i thought of the following:
1. 350Z
2. E36 M3
3. S2000
4. 99' 911 carrera
I thought about getting an STI or EVO VIII but didn't want 4 doors.
