Before getting a Z - I never considered buying it. Thats because I never had chance to sit inside. I had a feelin' it won't be comfortable enough - I am tall. I was hunting for M3 E46 or Audi S4. Until I got inside the Z and was shocked that this little bastard have so much space inside. I loved it from the first day. I got my Z because it quite rare here - 3 Z's in the region vs Audi's and BMW's on every corner.
The rubber necks on the street everyday are just the confirmation of my words...

Either an E46 M3 or a new Z. I cant imagine buying a used sports car. SUV, sure why not, sports car, not a chance. I dont want to buy another persons troubles. Got the Z and havn't looked back. I've always wanted one and now that i can afford one, i got the damn thing and am loving it.

I just purchased my '07 350Z last month and was test-driving and shopping for the following before narrowing it down to a Z (all used of course):
Chevy/GMC Tahoe/Yukon
Cadillac CTS-V
BMW 3-Series
A pretty broad selection of cars types, but I am a pretty picky individual when it comes to what I enjoy driving. My previous '03 Audi A4 was an excellent car aside from consistent maintenance issues (A/C compressor, leaking steering rack, failed C/V joint).
Cheers!

I looked at most of the regular options when I was buying 3 years ago or so. Supra, RX7/8, S2000, 350z, STI, Evo.
Decided against the RX7 and Supra because the platforms are older and most of the cars are so tampered with it's hard to know whats been done and if it was done right or not (though I'd still love to get one). The STI and Evo were out next because I have never been into 4 seats much less 4 doors (3 of my 4 cars have been 2 seaters, LOL).
RX8 was out because quite frankly that thing is way down on power, yet gulps gas like no other. Styling is decent, but those rear doors are shameful on a sports car IMO.
Then it came down to the S2000 and Z. Both were priced pretty much exactly the same and I loved the looks of both. I really think I would have had as much fun in either car, but insurance ended up choosing my option because the lowest rate I could find for the S2000 was twice that of the Z.
The rest is history.
The new Camaro looks very tempting and quite honestly I would probably lay down the cash IF it didn't weigh 3800 and some change pounds. I mean...I already think the Z is overweight and it probably only weighs 3150, maybe even less. I'll probably just stick it out and wait for GTM to make some progress on their stroked titan v8 swap and have the best of both worlds a couple years down the road.

Ferrari 308/328 GTB/GTS QV
Viper RT/10 or GTS
Corvette Z06 (C5)
Porsche 993 S/C4S
Porsche 996 S
E46 M3
MKIV Supra TT
The 350Z has the most reliability out of all of those, as well as its far cheaper to maintain.

Before going for the Z, I looked/tested around with BMW 135i/335i coupes and also looked into a Pontiac G8 GT.
All are great cars, the Bimmers offering great bolt on upgrade/tune options, but reliability/BMW pricing turned me away (The grey graphite 335i 6mt with red leather-sport seats was fantastic though... too bad no LSD for such a car).
The Pontiac was very nice, and priced well, but the engine felt funny once it started running on 4cyl to conserve fuel, and the HUGE steering wheel felt awkward and clumsy. I do remember it was Incredibly roomy, also equipped with an LSD.
I had a love for the Z since I was a kid, and the 350 was/is the best bang for the buck... Now I need to look for another car for my wife.
Hmm... Maybe she'll like a slightly used 2006 M5...

I got my zR mainly for looks, wanted the 2 door/2 seater
My other choices were the
s2k
z3/4
minta
zR
Didn't get the minta cuz my uncle has the turbo minta, didn't want the same car that he has. s2k my friend was picking up and I didn't like how it's so small inside. z3/4 didn't like the look too much, felt disportion. The zR was for me, test drove it and pick it up rite there and then.

Considered:
Pontiac Solstice (Too small)
Audi TT 3.2 (Too much money)
VW R32 (Nice, but not a 'sports car' per se)
RX-8 (I know nothing about Roatries and was worried about working on it myeslf)
WRX (Felt too cheap, build wise)

well...I came from a 2007 STI Limited. I loved EVERYTHING about that car, except for the insurance price. The power was incredible. The handling was uncanny. The AWD was amazing, especially in bad weather. The braking was perfect. I was paying $140 a month in insurance when living over in NJ. Come to Philly = a new policy, so it was going up to almost $300 a month!!!!
So, time to sell the STI cause no way was I going to pay that. Ridiculous.
My main interests were the Audi TT and S2000 because I wanted a little roadster. I wasn't interested in the Miata or Z3/Z4 at all really for various reasons. I'm not a small guy, so the S2k was out, even though it was my top choice. The TT, I just never really found one that I liked, plus the maintenance and reliability nightmares I had read and researched about the TT just killed it for me (Consumer reports didn't help, haha)
I randomly came across a Z that I liked...and went and checked it out. I got in and felt instantly comfortable. I loved the layout inside and the exterior looks were on point. Then I went for a test drive and was dead set on finding a Z I liked (the particular one I was test driving had the infamous synchro issue, and the salesman was trying to play it off like it was supposed to grind when shifting at lower RPMs...douche).
Few days later, I found my black 2003 with burnt orange leather with 45k on the clock, and one owner. Test drove that and it was solid, tranny shifted like butter...and the price was a lot less than what I was paying for on my STI monthly, and in insurance monthly.
So here I am today, very happy with my 350z

Hold on ... you put m3 fenders on a 325Ci? Please tell me you're kidding.
I have a e46 328Ci as my daily and wouldn't dare try to pull that off.
I can't believe no one has yet to call you out on this.
So which one those dual tailpipes actually has exhaust coming out of it?
I didn't think it was possible to rice out a german car.

Can't you say the same thing to the guys putting NISMO front bumpers on regular Z's?
Same thing this kid did with his BMW.
Who cares though. I know if he rolled up along side of me it isn't an M3 regardless of what he has done. Less he went a step further in swapping engines to where i would only find out in a friendly match.
Don't be fooled though that the M3 is the superior bmw by far. The 330ci will give an M3 a big time work out just to pull away by a minimal amount.

Dutchboy350z, why don’t you read my post before you come out like A$$ that knows about e46, and tell me where I said it was an M3, also every e46 non M on E46 forums got am M3 bumper or Mteck so what the hell its soooo forbidden when it comes to fenders, also can you show me some pics of yours so I can learn from your great taste how not to rice a German car? Kid grow up. I was trying to contribute to this thread and be apart of the forums since I just got a 350 and I got so much to learn about it
