Both sides need to realize that buying a car is purely subjective. Even going for the "ultimate performance" is subjective because of personal bias in what is important (acceleration, track times, braking, handling, torque, hp etc.). You can buy a car for a particular reason, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everybody else should buy that car too.
As for the times posted in magazines, generally there is a little note explaining various superscript numbers and engine codes and stuff like that. If you read through it you will find a line that tells you that you should only compare times that are within .3-.4 seconds if the two vehicles are in the same evaluation. So argue with the magazine numbers properly.

Geez, I can't believe how uptight everyone's getting over this! It's an INTERNAL document, not intended for public consumption. FWIW, they also produced similar docs for the Audi TT & Boxster S. Sure, it's biased in favor of the Z, but that's why it's called "marketing". Some of you are acting like Nissan is personally harming or insulting you!
For any consumers who base their decisions on what a salesperson blabs about, that's their problem. Do your own independent research, do your test drives, and ignore the sales blabber.
Seems to me like the Z is an AWESOME car that stands on its own. They certainly don't need hard sales tactics to move them right now.
There's space in the market for both cars, and I predict Honda will still sell all the S2000's they can make as long as they don't further increase production.
=========================
I'm disappointed to see how insecure both sides' partisans are re: such a trivial matter. Both cars have relative advantages in diff. areas, & neither is clearly superior IMO.
I'd certainly consider buying a Z if I was in the market for a new sports car, but I'm not going to take the depreciation hit on a great 1 1/2 yr. old car to switch. I am, however, trying to talk my g/f into a Z...her Jag. convertible seems like a PITA to me, and she's been thinking of a Boxster to replace it.
One thing's for sure - I'm not going to get "owned" by any Z. Sure, they may pull ahead of me from a stoplight, but I'll still enjoy my S2000 as much as I ever have!
I came here b/c I have lots of enthusiasm for the Z, and may end up owning one @ some point in the future. My dad bought one of the first 240's in '69, and then owned a 280Z. My brother owned a 260Z. I wanted a 300ZX TT when they came out, but couldn't afford one back then. Owning a 350Z would be a cool way of furthering the family tradition!

OK I stand corrected... After doing some more research as padam07 kindly suggested, here are my findings.
Honda S2000
Transmission: Manual
Obtained from MT February, 2000
0-60: 5.2
1/4 Mile: 13.8
1/4 Speed: 100
Nissan 350Z
Transmission: Manual
Obtained from C&D August, 2002
0-60: 5.4
1/4 Mile: 14.1
1/4 Speed: 101
Information obtained from www.carstats.com. So there you have it, in "black and white and color" as to which is faster.
Enough said.

Thanks TXSTYLE.
A word of caution to the S2K guys trolling here (and I don't mean unabageler or Chris...you know who you are): you had your fun...this thread went on way too long. Any further attempts to start **** will be stopped quickly and you will be banned. Not that you'd care, but we will not let this forum turn a playground for trolls with slower cars.
Sorry...couldn't resist taking one shot.
