Mistake! Need advice urgently!

Dear all,
After all the waiting, I have discovered that either my dealership or NNA screwed up my pre-order. Although I ordered a base 350Z, I decided to upgrade to the Enthusiast package assuming the limited slip and traction control are worth the extra money. Unfortunately, it turns out that although the change was sent to NNA, the change didn't happen and the car I am going to receive next week is a Base model Z.
My question for all of you is: How critical is the limited slip and traction control? I don't care about the shiny pedals and glorified garage door opener that is Homelink (although I would've liked to have gotten the Xenons). I am trying to figure out whether I should just go ahead and buy the car anyway.
FYI, I live in VA in the DC area. It snows here, but not that bad. Probably only a few really bad days a year.
Many thanks!
DK

take the base and mod the ccrap out of it....if i would have gotten the base I would have had 10k left to do mods....you can put a sweet possy track in the rear end...and go mod happy do your own Xenons.

I also originally ordered a Base, then changed to an Enthu for exactly the same reasons you stated, plus I realized that the base didn't have cruise control. I eventually received my 'Letter' from Nissan with the correct data. So hopefully my change was effective. To answer your question. This is such a sweet car, I would take the Base. You'll love it!!! Even with Traction Control and Limited Slip you'll want to leave it at home on Snow Days in DC. Too many other idiots on the road. So don't refuse it for that reason.

Yes I received a confirmation letter but only one (I have no idea where it is now). And I think it might have been for the Base. I guess I just assumed it would get taken care of.
So am I to assume that traction control is really not a significant issue I should be worried about? I've lived without it obviously for the past 12 years or so, butI was just concerned about the rear wheel drive aspect.

My opinion is that all these 'things' LSD, TC, VDC have value in certain situations, which depend primarily on how you intend to use the vehicle. A lot of members of this forum have driven high-powered rear wheel drive cars for years (without any of these add-ons) and are still here to talk about it. Get the base. Be careful when the roads are wet, especially until you get the feel of the car, leave it home when it snows. You'll get the hang of it.!!!!

yes i admit it, i am not a lifelong rear wheel drive sportscar fanatic. I appreciate a good car when i see one, but i have never really gotten my hands dirty messing with the internals of a car or modifying to my heart's content. Mostly I wanted a fun car that wasn't too expensive but still had credible performance. I mean geez, I've been driving an automatic Jetta for the past seven years for God's sake! I'm on the verge of 30 and figured, if I'm going to get a sportscar, this is the time!
If anyone else has an opinion, i'd love to hear it. Thanks Geezee for the input.

The LSD is a cheap viscous coupling that you'd throw out for serious track duty anyways and TCS is nothing you can't do with your foot. The only things you will notice day to day for road use are the xenons and the cruise control. If you can live without those, you're fine.

One last question from a newbie:
I just realized that these W rated tires may not last very long. Anyone know how many miles I should expect and how much I should budget for replacement on an annual basis? Like I said, I've been driving a VW for 7 years, so it didn't really matter what kind of tires I bought.
Many thanks

I also ordered the Base and then upgraded to the Enthusiast. I got two confirms from NNA, both said Base. Both my dealer and NNA have assured me that I will be receiving an Enthusiast, we shall see. I'm going to part company with everyone else on this thread and say you should hold out for the Enthusiast. IMO if your gonna spend $30K on a car, you should get exactly the car you want and not settle for something less. Everyone who has received theirs already have raved about the Xenons so you will be missing out on that. Also, I think its important to have an LSD with a car with 287 HP, you don't want all that HP going to a spinning wheel. Finally, having spun a 300Zx on the freeway after a light rain (I was going a whopping 65 mph at the time and not even changing lanes, when my rear wheels just lost traction and got loose), I can assure you that losing traction is no fun at all. RWD are notarious for losing traction on slippery surfaces and my guess is a 287HP car will be even more likely to lose traction. I would definitely make them get you the Enthusiast even if you have to wait a few months -- although I know how painful it will be to wait longer.

I wonder how much of the traction has to do with the LSD and traction control and how much has to do with the tires?
I figure if I have good rubber on the wheels, that should make up for a lot of the traction control issue, no?

Go ahead and wait for the Enthusiast. BTW, can you give me the name of your dealer thanks.

Actually, just kidding. I am happily waiting for mine also. You should wait for the enthusiast. I had base on order originally and was debating on ordering the electronic mirror and adding the zenon's and then look for some aluminum pedals. In the end though, I would have spent the same amount of money. I have had automatics all my life and I decided to go with a manual and 2 seater for the first time (almost 30 also; need to do it before it may be too late). Given the power of the car and the low end torque, I would really want to have the traction control. I could just imagine trying to make a left turn at an intersection on a rainy day and accidentally hitting the gas too much to get across faster and all hell breaks loose on a base that shouldn't happen on any other model.
Just think how many times you have had situations where you gun the throttle in an critical emergency situation (6-7 times in the life of the car)...thankfully all those times have been with low powered cars; this one I would like to have the safety of TCS on my side of the statistics.

It's really not that easy to spin the wheels on a RWD car with sticky rear tires even with as much torque as this one has... unless you spend a lot of time at full throttle in 1st gear. If most of your experience is with FWD, RWD is thankfully much different
Hooray for physics. Still, I'd wait since enthusiast does have some things I wouldn't want to be without.

All,
I recently posted about a snafu between my dealer and NNA regarding my order (ordered Base originally, upgraded to Enthusiast...but Base will be arriving next week).
The more I think about it the more pissed off I get. I thought I'd made this decision months ago and was looking forward to making a final decision upon test driving the car, but now I'm back in the thick of things.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can prod my dealer or NNA to rectify the situation without having to order from square one all over again? Any input would be appreciated.
