Default Busted my dealer with car chip!

I took my car in for sevice yesterday and the my dealer had my car for 4 hours to do an alignment and to replce the brake pads.

I have the Drive Right Car Chip (EX version) attached to my OBDII port by the front hood release latch. This chip records the time the car was driven, miledge, G's pulled in braking and acceleration, and a bunch of other stuff like throttle position, fuel flow, speed of the car gauged every 5 seconds, and etc.

Well once I checked my chip, I found that whoever test drove the car took a litle joy ride with my it. I saw some 0 to 60 lauches around the 6 sec. range, and several hard accellerations after that all pulling over 0.54 G's which is getting on the gas a little. I'm not too pissed because it was only a 5 min, couple of miles test drive, and I'm sure that they had to do this to test out the new brake pads. I'm going to take it somewhere else from now on.

i would present it to the mechanical manager, although somehow it could bring up a warranty issue for a future visit.

Definitely bring this issue up. It's a terrible thing if you can't trust those working on your car.

need to make repeated stops from 30-60mph, you gotta get to those speeds somehow, and the mechanic gets paid by the book rate. quicker he can do it, the better for him.

A quick search on the web found it for about $180 for the EX version, down to $140 for the basic version. Here is the manufacturer's site:

Very cool device!
