4.08 final drive gears and vsld was the best move I have done for my 07 base. I bought this before any bolt on. Best move you can do in my opinion as long as you have a good machanic to install them and your planning on staying NA.

I don't notice any new noises or whining going on. The only thing I could guess in your case is the lsd or gears are not mesh up at just the right distance. I only upgraded to the stock vlsd and took off the open diff. I originaly had on [which is for sale], so I still have a stock sound with the gears, but just quiker revs of coarse. As far as I know most all lsd's give various new noise over a stock besides a quaif drop in lsd for the base.
I was in the same shoes you are in a few months ago as I traded for a STS turbo Z with 403hp and at first all I thought was more power, even though it was and still is "wicked fast" to ME. It sounds to me that you need some time getting used to that power, as I did. If you are content with the way the exhaust sounds then there is nothing wrong with upgrading your audio as you stated in your OP. A tune would not be a bad idea though
