The majority of us have problems with feathering... and from what I have read the majority of you who have taken the car to the dealer STILL have problems...

Fact of the matter is...

Feathering can be a serious problem and it is obvious that the majority of the 2003 350Z's have this problem. There has not yet been any formal recal by Nissan and if a driver is NOT on www.my350z.com or similar message board most likely they will never know they are having a problem...

I am going to be writing a letter to the National Highway Saftey Adminstration and send a copy to Nissan America... This problem NEEDS to be solved even if all Z's need to be recaled and new front suspensions put on...

I AGREE... I was surprised to see sooo many Zs have this problem, I'm not sure if I have this problem or not yet... but I'm sure that my alignment is off 'little' bit... will keep an eye on the tires.
But YES, Nissan has to do something

 

I agree that something should be done. It really takes away from the car, I can barely enjoy the car right now because the tires make so much noise and the vibration from it caused some other rattles. It is embarassing to even take anyone for a ride in the car because it is so loud. I know people are quick to jump on us saying this is the way a sports car is supposed to be, but there is no reason the car should ruin sets of tires from weird wear patterns have tire noise louder than the radio.

 

suck it up... go get it aligned and fix the problem.

 

There is no reason the tires should be so loud... I was in the car with a friend of mine and she was used to my old car with a really loud... But the Z was particualarly loud to her while breaking...

Im having a crazy night tonight... Been out... But wanted to see what this thread was doing... Im going to write the letter tommorow when things chill...

But please.. If you are interseted in doing this with me speak up... Im calling my attorney tommorow about persuing this as well...

 

You get the lawyers together; I wouldn't mind new tires... (Oh F... I had to spring 400 for new front ones already) I kept my old tires too... they are in bags sitting on my porch... NEED EVIDENCE of poor tire performance?

You guys should deal with Nissan Australia.

They have not released one TSB for the car as yet! So far have not heard of anyone with tyre feathering but we have all the other problems and they dont want to know about it!!!!!

 

Got it aligned tooo, under TSB. I dont think it was all about alignment, I think its those bridgestone potenzas, they suck bad... they just dont perform well... maybe cause its FIRESTONE/Bridgestone.

I did not buy them this time... ironically I dont think Nissan tested the Z with those tires, I think they specd with Miches on

 

Well from what i hear it does it with aftermarket rims and tires...

I printed most of the TSB from the Nissan US site, sent them to our local customer service people and the response was the car is totally different.......

Interesting. So I sent them the japanese equivalent, and they responded the car is different.

And here I was thinking the car was imported from Japan....ours must have come from Uzbekistan?!?!?!?

Well I don't think it's just an 03 problem, I have the pulling to the right so I assume the feathering is not far behind.

 

yes someone contact some lawyers about this and get this lawsuit on the roll... since this is a problem for the life of the car unless they swap the suspension i would imagine we could get something done to rectify this (lifetime worth of tires or a new z with the problems fixed )

 

04 350Z owners have mentioned the Z pulling to the right also.

My 03 has been aligned 3 times, had new tires installed up front and had the suspension compression rod replaced. The car still pulls to the right.

I'm dropping it off at the dealer tonight for Nissan's "specialist" to look at and fix tomorrow. If it is not fixed I have requested Nissan to buy back the car (per Lemon Law). Yes I love my Z but I'm not keeping a car with this problem. I'm not forking out money for new tires every 5000-6000miles.

I don't believe there is a fix for this problem right now. Some of you out there may be in denial and need to accept the fact that there is a problem with the Z and do something about it. You'll only regret it in the future.

In time, Nissan will find themselves recalling the Z for this problem. I really do hope they find a TRUE fix soon!

 

this is why they are trying not to admit to it!.. i will be torn if the fix is a recall.. i love my brickyard but a new car that didnt screw up tires would be nice also

 

hi guys , wish i read this thread before i bought mine , i got a new z daytona blue and i love it after reading this im scared. i have almost 2000 miles on it , i need to know what to look for physically and what i might feel ??? someone help me out. i agree im not paying for new tires every 6000 miles , my father is a lawyer , nissan will have my car back so fast they wont know what happened.

 

I also agree. Something definitely needs to be done. Its obvious nissan is blaming the bridgestone, and bridgestone is blaming nissan. While the consumer is screwed. I would definitely take part in a class action lawsuit.

 

I've been saying for months that people should report their tire cupping/feathering to the NHTSA. The more people report, the more a trend is shown and the more likely the NHTSA will investigate the problem as a SAFETY issue and force Nissan to recall and fix the problem.

If a class-action is necessary, count me in.

I'm taking my car to the dealer next week and we'll see what they tell me. I have 5600 miles and no overtly visible feathering, but the tires are starting to roar on braking, per their own TSB. I can feel the feathering, but just can't see it. Hopefully, the dealer won't try to snowjob me.

I'll post what they tell me next week.

I'd have been on top of this issue more but I've been extremely busy with work and I'm buying a condo (in the process), so I haven't had enough time!
