Default How far to travel to get a used 350Z

How far does everyone think is a reasonable distance to drive to buy a used 350Z. I am having a very hard time finding one I like in my immediate area and and was thinking there is no reason not to travel a few miles for a car. I guess if you buy a car from a place where you will never be returning it will make it very hard to get something fixed if it goes wrong within first couple months of buying the car. Does anyone have bad experiences with traveling 100+ miles to purchase a used car? Sorry I know this is sort of a stupid question I just want as much advice as possible.

Back in the spring I bought my G35 from a guy in the DC area. It was close to 300 miles each way. It was a great deal so I couldn't pass it up. I took a one way rental up and drove the G back home.

No need to settle on just the cars in your immediate area. A long drive just wastes one day. Thats a small price to pay to get the exact car you want.

I traveled 600miles to get my 06 G35 coupe... it was a rare combo of color/MT/and options... such a beautiful car. Then when that was hit and totaled at an intersection I traveled 300miles to get my 08Z. If it's certified/under warranty then there shouldn't be much of a problem. Just check for things like salt damage and paint scratches that have been masked before you purchase. I checked my Zs stored GPS locations and found that the previous owner drove it up north...and sure enough it had mild salt corrosion underneath.

I searched for a 1992-93 Dodge W350 for almost 5yrs. I finally found one in Detroit MI. That was a clean, rust free TX truck It was a 7.5 hour trip one way to pick it up. 15 total hours! My dad always says no matter what you want in life you have to go get it, it will never come to you! Just make sure its exactly what you want! Dont settle for something if its not. The perfect car is a week behind the one you settle for!

I confined my search to one hundred miles, but never drove more than sixty to look at one. Based on experience, I knew there was a fair chance people wouldn't be there at the agreed-upon time or the car would be a serious disappointment.

I ended up buying new from a dealer just over a hundred miles away because they wouldn't let my local dealer trade them for the car. I think they gave me a better deal than the local dealer would have, though.

Why are you asking us what's reasonable? What's reasonable for me might not be reasonable for you, or the other way around. You chose if it's worth the drive

I live in the Indianapolis area and I bought my Z in Chicago. I just flew over there, paid for the Z, and then drove it home. I wasn't much of a hassle considering how much fun I had driving home my new "used" Z.

I live in Ohio and they didn't have any Z's I wanted. I was about to go to Virginia but then found a better one in in Indiana. Much better selection if you increase the area in your search, you'll get a better car that way.

This is something you're gonna have for a long time, and care a lot about. Plus a 350Z isn't just an altima, there's not thousands for sale in your home city.

Reasonable distance is up to you man? but dont let that bother you i would say....many people travel to find what they want.

I too agree with others - dont settle till you find what you want.......

I went with my brother in law out of town 4 hours to get a 240sx in mint condition, completely stock with i swear the best dash and interior i had ever seen in a 240sx....Its now completely decked out - SR swap and all for drifting...

as for repair work........your talking about getting a used 350z...if its still in factory warranty any dealership can help you with that....other than that its up to you if you purchase any additional warranty or take it to your own shops if needed...

Only problem is....if the engine blows out then you're kinda out of luck to get it back to the dealership that's 3 states away for the warranty.

I went all the way from SC to Alabama to get an S13. Are you looking for a stock Z or is there a modified one a few states away that has your attention? Thats what happened in my case. There were lightly modded
S13's galore in SC but I saw mine on Craigslist with almost 400hp and couldn't pass it up. Don't narrow your search to your geographical area and be patient.

I was willing to drive/fly up to 300 miles to pick up a Z or G35 coupe when I was looking for mine. I ended up getting lucky and found mine 7 miles away.

Okay thanks for the responses...I now feel much better and more confident in being able to quickly find the 350Z I wanted. I was thinking the same thing that you need to just find the car that you want and spend the day or two it requires to get it.

How bad do you want it? That's what matters.
