Roommate Backed into my Z
I just turned in my last paper for the semester last night, and was pumped about sleeping in this morning...so 7:30 AM rolls around and I hear a knock on my door and one of my roommates telling me she ran into my car
Just to make things a little bit more fun, she says she did it with the truck that her old roommate (she moved out and I moved into her room) left at the house, and she is not insured to drive the trunk AND after calling her old roommate she informs me that her old roommate canceled the insurance on the truck YESTERDAY! Turns out that she said her folks can lend her some money to pay for it, or her insurance will cover under a "second vehicle" policy or something like that.
I just got back from 2 different body shops. Shop 1 ($2311), which I had never been to before, says they need to install a new door sleeve/skin to be able to repair the rest of the door. Shop 2 ($2177), which I've been to before and know they do good work, says when they pull the sleeve/skin back out it should also pull most of the damaged part of the door back out. My roommate talked to her body shop and said that they could probably repair it for $1500, but that sounds a little too good to be true.
Right now I going to go to Shop 2, but they don't have any opennings until Feb. 1st!! I'm only a few weeks away from having enough bones to get some coilovers and my volks installed, and the timing of this whole thing really just sucks. Although I guess there isn't really ever a good time for someone to run into your car.

Also, I could be wrong, but you will probably need a police report to claim it as a hut & run. Not sure if it will raise your premiums, but I wouldn't do it anyway. This chick needs to learn a lesson and while making her pay won't teach her to drive, making a false claim with your insurance is stupid and it's because of people always making false claims that everyone's prices go up. I am sure she didn't mean it, but it's time to enter the real world, step up and take responsibility for her actions.

Yeah, I tend to try to stay away from insurance fraud. Ironically, I park at least 25 yards away from where they park so there wouldn't be a chance for them to hit my car.
I'm not worried about her not paying for, I kinda know where she lives, I just hate driving around for 1 1/2 months with my door looking all jacked up.

I would file a police report even if you choose not to go the insurance route. AT least get something in writing from her that she admits she did it and agrees to pay forit. You don't know that you will remain friends with her and without any record you will have to pay. A buddy of mine(known for ten years) wrecked my Prelude and swore he would pay for it and I trusted him. Our friendship evaporated and since I had no evidence that he wrecked it, it was my word against his and he just denied he was driving.
I would want new panels. The door could be pulled but you would alway be able to tell. The quarter would definitely be replaced. You are smart to be skeptical of the 1500
