Fuel Door problem

Fuel Door problem
It happened too many times that when I push the fuel door button and the door doesn't open. I had to use my index finger to lift the door up a bit and push the button again. This has been a pain. Anyone else having this problem?

I always push the button several times before I get out of the car.....and that still doesn't do it. I have to admit that my Civic's fuel door is more solid than this. I fear that I might break it if I have to keep lifting it.

I had the same problem.
One day it wouldn't open at all and some b!tch behind me was waiting to use the pump. So I pushed the button a bit harder and the button mechanism slipped right through the hole in the dash. As it was hanging there I pushed the button again and the fuel door opened.
When I got home, I fiddled with the button and got it re-lodged in the dash. It seems to stick forward a bit more now and the fuel door has worked perfectly ever since.
Thanks to the b!tch waiting behind me to use the pump.
Elmer.

yeah the button is electronical not mechanical, the strength you push it with will not affect the force it lets go with... but Im sure you knew that and was just fustrated, in which case, I cant blame you.

I had that problem too. What I think is the trick is, you open ur car door, then turn off the ignition and then push the button. that always seems to work and I only need to do it once. or maybe i'm just luckY? who knows, hope that helps.

I've had this problem a few times. The first time I lubed it with WD-40 and that fixed the problem for quite a while. It started happening again so I took it to the dealer and they "adjusted" it, and when I got home I tried opening it (so I wouldn't look like an idiot at the pump), and it wouldn't budge. I had to lodge a piece of cardboard in the lid so it would pop when I hit the button and it was hard to open with my hand. I ended up spraying it with some WD-40 again and that loosened it up, but I think I will have to use something like some white lithium grease to keep it from happening again.

I have had this happen to me many times also. It doesn't matter if I hit the button once or fifty times it still won't open sometimes. I thought it was just me but I think I will take it in to have it looked at now.

Thank you everyone for your feedback....at least now I know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Nissan has been designing cars for so many yrs and I can't believe they can't even get the d*mn fuel door right. I love the car but this is the kind of disappointment that I least expected.

I have a performance model. I've never turned ON the VDC since I own the car. I'm waiting for the rain.

Ummm...okay. VDC defaults on whenever you start your car. You have to push the button to turn it off. I dont know why you would want to drive with VDC off. It's not going to impact performance unless you're doing James Bond style moves, and if it does need to activate it saves your @$$ 90% of the time.

This happened to me last night too. I believe its the long black plastic peice that is attached to the gas cap. Sometimes it will get caught on the slot where the gas cover latches on to causing the cover to seemingly stay shut when you push the open gas cover button..
