Nah, that's just too easy these days. There's no challenge in it anymore.

But there are the few cool sales people--I befriend those people because they actually know their stuff and don't screw around. They're a RARE find!

Default We are minority....hence wrong

What they could do is make people feel comfotable, tell them how good they looked and find out how much money they were going to be able to get out of them. That's it.
I understand how everyone feels about car salesmen, how stupid they can be and how they can straight lie in your face.
However, have you every thought of WHAT CAUSES IT???
Look around you in a Nissan dealership, or Mitsu or any dealership. What do you see? Yes, full of people actually NEEDS a salesman.

Not everyone read MotorTrend every month, EVERYONE on this forum is more knowledgeable than ANY Nissan salesman. Heck, what percentage of the general public joins a forum for their car??? MyGeoPrizm.com???

Not here to flame anyone, just that dumb and ignorant people are everywhere, it's not worth it getting frustrate over.

Afterall, my stupid mother and father and girlfriend are the cause of bull-**** salesman. Prosche dealers won't act as stupid.
I believe that stores are a direct reflection of its customers.

Wanna bet? My uncle recently dropped 90k on his Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Do you know how much he knew about it? Absolutely zip. He had to consult me and my dad before agreeing to the final price. I've been to the Porsche dealership here, and they'll try to take you for as much money as the possibly can, just like any other dealership.

Well, I guess Porsche also attracts wannabe enthusiasts with a lot of money.
Just kidding.

My point is, dealers lie because they can get away with it.
The day that everyone have the thirst of knowledge for cars will be the day dealers stop lying.

It'd be nice if dealers couldn't get away with lying anymore, but the sad fact is that car enthusiasts are very much a minority. Most people own cars for the status symbols attached to one (if it's an expensive car) or as a necessity for transportation. Not many people care about a cam's lobe seperation or which is the best flowing exhaust or what's the best compression to run with forced induction--they just want to know that it will work when the turn the key.

Now what they *should* do is build a seperate dealership for us car freaks--you'd have to take an entrance exam or something. Then we could cut through all the BS right there and get down to the nitty gritty and not have to worry about the salesman thinking we're stupid. That'd be nice.

That dealership wouldn't make any money.

I'm always surprised that I know way more about the cars at the showroom than the dealers do. This goes for just about everything, from the Honda Accord, to my parent's Maxima and TL, to my Z.

It makes you wonder what the average car purchaser knows, or more appropriately, doesn't know.

I had a neighbor who owned a new Corvette Convertible. She was convinced the thing had Z06 hp, despite me showing her otherwise. She said that's what the dealer had told her.

Good point. Revised idea. Take a test to get into the "true enthusiast" part of the dealership where salesmen are required to actually know what they're talking about.
