It seems that everybody thinks ...
I went to the BMW dealership here in Irvine, looking at some used BMWs for my wife, when the salesman I originally bought my old BMW came out to greet me. He looked inside my Z and complimented it highly. He really liked the spartan look.
All of the gauges are pointed right at the driver and provide all of the necessary information you need at a glance.

If you're Nissan, and you're planning to sell a vehicle as hot as the 350z for under $30k, you've gotta be very selective about what you spend your production costs on. And if it comes down to spending a little less money on the interior to provide the requisite performance under the hood, that's perfectly all right with me. As far as I'm concerned, they spent the money in all the right places.
Having said that, I actually really like the interior of my Z. Some might complain that it's too Spartan, but I prefer to think of it as minimalist...it's got all the basic elements I need, and nothing that's unnecessary. Not to mention the most comfortable driver's seat I've ever sat in.

my interiors great, but coming from a dodge ram, I didnt have to far to go to be more than satisfied. I guess if you compare it to a porsche, or corvette, I dont think its any worst than a mustang, s2k or firebird, but whatever.
I think it depends on which Z you are in. I just went from an Enthusiast 6 speed to a Touring automatic. I was surprised to see that the center stack in the touring has a more soft-touch textured, charcoal covering as opposed to the hard, hollow-plastic shell in lighter charcoal that was in my Enthusiast. It does give the interior a little better look and feel, but I never thought the Enthusiast interior was bad. I wasn't crazy about the harder plastic in the stack, but I also understood that some interior trim quality was sacrificed in order to keep the price down. I do applaud the use of genuine aluminum bezels on the cluster...seems no one mentions that. How many cars have look-alike materials in those areas? Not ours! Plus, with the addition of the leather interior of the touring, well, leather just dresses up anything. I think some people are just out for anything to criticize, and the very fact that Nissan will admit that they saved cost in the interior just gives them more reason to rant. I don't think Nissan claimed it was a premium luxury interior, and in some of my reading on the development, they also admit it isn't on par with the former 300Z. So what. It's a heck of a lot nicer than a lot of cars for more money. Ever sit in a $35k Buick or Pontiac? Give me a break...

I like the interior just fine, except it's too fragile. The Sentra SE-R has a better interior, IMO, and that car is under half the price of the Z.

Guys, we have a great interior...don't listen to those people. I would swear that they only wish they could be sitting in our cars experiencing that interior and everything else about it (grin).
srm
As stated by a lot of posters above...
I love the interior of the Z...
Loved it when I saw it in pictures... loved it when I first test drove the Z... loved it when I finally got my Z... and love it today and every day I drive my Z.
Spartan... functional... everything in easy reach and sight... beautiful black with different textures with silver accents.... and the dial lights are very readable in my favorite orange.
Color me...

I like the interior of the Z. It is true that it is not "luxo", but it is clean and functional. It is a very close cockpit and seems like it was made for driving, not made for sipping starbucks while talking on a cell phone.
