Default Belt or Chain?

Sorry guys if this is repost but:

Does the 350 have a timing belt or a timing chain?

My dealer told me Chain...I dunno if that is correct or not...I now have a sneaking suspicion that it isn't.

Thanks

Yeah, whaddya think this is...some kind of Honda VTEC engine?

I personally think that belts have no place in driving camshafts on an engine...they're glorified rubber bands and snap like them too. Particularly on an interference motor where the valves can contact the pistons. Let me tell you what happens when a timing chain breaks on a 600cc sportbike at 14,000 RPMs...there isn't much left, that's for sure...

Oh no, I know....

That's why I was wondering...one of the very specific reasons I got this car was becasue it has a chain. I have no confidence in belts and don't want to have to deal with them and getting them maintained.

I was wondering because, while I currently don't have the time to mod my car (however I am interested), 2 of my uncles are design engineers for FoMoCo, and while they're unhappy that I got a car made in Japan, they can't wait to get their hands on it at the big family Thanksgiving. And that's a big 'Uh Oh'. Wanted to make sure that I have everything straight before they start hacking my baby apart

Beamm - Haha. There's nothing FoMoCo has on Nissan in terms of Engineering. That shouldn't be a hard debate. Maybe if you were buying a truck they'd have some valid points (*maybe*) but what does FoMoCo have that compares to a 350z?

I looked at a mustang SVT before buying my roadster because it's roughly the same price and has a LOT more HP (390) but styling, resale price, handling and not wanting to say "I drive a Mustang" led me to buy the Nissan.

You may get smoked off the line by an SVT but put them on the track and watch the Mustang hit the guardrails while you blow by.

Paul_BB_Guy don't be so sure of smoking a SVT at the track. I have heard it said time and time again. That is the best mustang ever. It handles well also but in the end it is still a mustang.

BEAMM, it's probably best that you don't let them drive it. You wouldn't want your uncles to lose their jobs at Ford when they go and buy a 350Z, now do ya!

BTW: I was just kidding about the VTEC joke...I don't know why Honda saw fit to put belts on the B-series...I think they went back to a chain on the K-series, though.

I have driven all kinds of cars, Mustangs (I owned one for a few years), Camaros, etc. I have yet to drive a car that feels as good as this 350Z. This car has something that just doesn't translate into numbers. The SVT Cobra Mustang may be able to post better numbers, but the driving experience has been totally different.

Hey now...who said they'd be drivin my baby???

What they'll do is 1) call my parents, 2) ask for their credit card numbers (they know i'm a poor student), 3) go and mod the hell out of it if they can.

Example of family car mods...my cousin has a Civic ('99 I think but I'm not sure) which has blacklights and ground effects lights and those washer jet lights hooked up to his sound system so they pulse to the bass beat. Really pointless but freakin bada** cuse it's like driving around in a club. Oh, and his horn plays Dixie too
