Default 350z base crash rate

I did a search on the forum but didn't find anything related to this, does someone knows the reason why base model crash so much?

I currently export vehicles from the US to other countries and the only salvage 350z i find are base models, haven't found any grand touring lately (looking for manual transmission only)

Is the base model more likely to crash than all the others?

No traction control either, although most enthusiasts turn it off anyway.

The more seasoned drivers are older and more likely to have the money to buy a trim level with options?

Little difficult to support or challenge a false premise.

is the 350z that powerful and the tires that bad? Haven't driven one yet, but i used to own a e36 325i with 305whp (force induction), without traction control or even with lsd, and i never had problems with loosing control of the rwd...

Now that I think about it this is a pretty good SCAM. Members with an inoperative Z contact you about exporting. And you ask for what? A $500 money order to “process the paperwork?” Not too bad.

Here is my account: 09384-REALLY

Dude was only a question, not a scam, wondering if i will keep one or even buy one for me instead of selling them. Only buy them from Copart no other place.

Considering that the base model is the rarest of them all, it doesn't make sense. Think about all the posts here from guys who have crashed their Zs - I haven't noticed that they are mostly based models.

Base models are the easiest to afford for kids' parents.

If I were to guess (which is all that can be done to speculate on this), I'd have to agree with the posts that assume more mature drivers generally purchase higher trim levels than base. No offense what so ever to the scores of quality drivers who *choose* the base model.

I'd guess the person who buys a fast car that they can barely afford, are less apt to drive their car carefully.

But of course, this speculation is based on not seeing any actual statistics of trim level wrecks, or age of base owners.

I have a Base model and I bought it because it didn't have the computer controlled goodies to second guess my driving. I have driven it for almost 7 years with no problems. It simply does what my feet and hands tell it to do. I'm now 66 so didn't buy it to cheap out. I bought it because it seemed to me like it was a more "pure" sports car than those with computer controls.

Although I think Davidv might be off base, rare as that may be, I don't think your experience is even remotely representative of the actual statistics. But I'll admit that's just a guess, and I'm not going to waste my time researching it. BTW, how did you determine the trim line - VIN?

Keep in mind that the VDC can be turned off, and anyone who would rather have something other than a LSD probably doesn't know what it does. Unless of course you have addressed that latter issue. Either way, no raggin' just sayin".

It’s interesting when examining dealer inventories that the Z Base model is rarely available. Dealers do not want this stripped-down model with little mark-up (albeit it was popular when the Z was first introduced in 2003 and the Base model was perceived as the affordable Z).

So… Who buys the Base model?

Base model buyers are individuals and organizations with the intension of running these cars on the track, or doing a total custom rehab. This buyer does not want a Z with additional options and cost since the car is stripped and re-equipped for a specific purpose.

When the car is eventually wrecked, ruined, or abandoned, it goes to the salvage yard. If it can be resurrected in one piece, it goes from there to a sale platform with a salvage title.

I don't use the vin, the title that the car has in the US is not relevant when is imported on another country.

I identified them by looking at the seats if not leather can't be a higher trim if no controls on the steering wheel are present is a base. Right? Or could I be wrong?

Here we go again..another rag on the base model thread..I bought mine because the dealership had it on sale for 5k under sticker brand new...By the way I know how to drive and I have no need for computer assistance or leather seats in a sports car. Some of you dudes are such base model snobs. A Z is A Z.
