Let's hope Ford built that 5.0 and their new v6 better than the price tags on them tells me they did. They still have much to prove to the automotive community, not just me. Like I said earlier.. it's one thing to impress the reviewers with massive power for a good price. It's another thing to look back after 5-10 years and appraise whether or not it was a good engine/car.

Yeah, GM is still regretting the LS-series after all.

God is that true, I know Nissan has been looking for a VQ replacement the last several years, they just cant seem to build anything better for the price and knowledge thats into this one. ???? Guess were all screwed with VQ's while ford has a super sweet brand new motor. Maybe a motor swap??? Who will be the first?

the mustang could be made of carbon fiber, have 600hp, get 80mpg, be made of gold, and cost $10,000 and i would still never be caught dead in one.
Lemme Guess... back in High School you caught your girl getting boned by the popular guy in his Mustang..

I hate the "Grooved" hood. My hood got hail damage 4 months into owning the car, insurance replaced it with an OEM Hood... I just provided a different part number.

I'll let the stats speak for them selves.

Mustang V6
3.7l V6
305hp at 6,500 RPM
280ft/tq at 4,250

Weight to Power - 11.4lb/hp
6spd Manual

3,464lbs as tested
54/46% weight distribution

0-60 in 5.1 seconds
1/4 Mile 13.7
60-0 104ft

.96g Skid
MT Figure 8 - 25.8 seconds @ .71g

19/29mpg REGULAR fuel

$22,995

350z
3.5l V6
287hp at 6,200 RPM
274ft/tq at 4,800 RPM

Weight to Power 11.7lb/hp
6spd

3,224lb per MFG

0-60 5.5 seconds
1/4 14.0 seconds
60-0 in 116ft

.86 G

20/26mpg PREMIUM (old EPA system too)
$34,688 (~$13,000 today used)

So when referring to the 17 year old that wants a Z... so what, he'll be getting spanked by V6 Mustangs and $6,000 WRXs... worse yet, he'll be on par with many mainstream V6 family sedans.

I can't help but think that the Z really does start in the hole with base performance, and while there is a HUGE aftermarket, and great community, it just can't compete $ per $ with very much. Kids can pick up a WRX for 6-8k, and $2,500 will get you in the 300whp range.

It's difficult to even argue handling when the a SRA Mustang is posting better, braking, saloom, and skid-pad numbers, never mind inexpensive C6's, S2Ks et al.

Just wondering, but if you're going to compare the latest model year V6 mustang why would you compare it to stats for the older model year 350z's? You do realize that an easy search of the 07-08 350z (the most recent 350z, since we are comparing recent models, correct?) show pretty much the same numbers:

Edmunds (07 350z) 5.1 0-60, 13.7 quarter mile (they got a 13.6 with the 08 Nismo)

Car and Driver (07 350z) 5.2 0-60, 13.7 quarter mile

So if you're going to "let the facts speak for themselves" at least get the facts straight. I haven't seen a stock V6 2011 mustang hit 13.1x's yet either but we'll give them time to get to the track.

If you want to compare the V6 mustang to 350z than try to match up the years and compare, for instance: 06 Mustang V6 vs 06 350z and you no longer have a comparison. My 07 350z cost me $18,500 with less than 7k miles on it, hardly overpriced for the vehicle I got- and when compared to the newest V6 Mustang i"ll be at least as fast if not faster and won't look like every other car on the road. Not taking away from Ford for what they've done, but if you want to make a comparison be realistic, you're cherry picking numbers from the older models to compare against Ford's newest and best V6 Mustang yet.

Very well, check out the videos and reviews. The S197 is riding a full modern suspension and chassis set up. Mustangs have always been "Good-Great" handling cars for their respective ears, however by the late 80's the 1978 Fairmount based Fox-body's set up was showing it's age.

By the 90's Ford wanted to be like everyone else, axe the RWD Mustang and the popular Ford Probe the headlining sports coupe. (Celica went FWD, Prelude was FWD, Eclipse was FWD). The Mustang team convinced Ford they could save enough money and cut enough corners to make sure both cars could be sold simultaneously. Thus, a massive re-use of Fairmount/Foxbody parts, essentially all that changed was the body style and interior.

The Mustang trudged on for another 11 years riding the same 1978 suspension architecture receiving a few engine updates (5.0 OHV to a 4.6 OHC to the 4.6PI OHC, and Cobras would get 4.6 DOHC and 4.6 DOHC S/C).

So while the S197 may feel heavier handed, or still have over-boosted steering, don't mistake that for "Can't handle" that is like an Miata owner claiming a Z can't handle and thus the Miata would "whoop it's ***".

The Mustang is actually one of the best track cars of all times, which an endless supply of suspension products. Why is it "ok" for Import Owners to change out bushings, control arms, tie-rods, coil-overs and brake kits to improve there cars, but when a Mustang owners does this, its because "his car can't handle" or is somehow "inferior". Honestly, it just means he has more to gain and is getting a better Bang-For-Buck
